Hey,

It seems so long since I was home!! And it's only been about 3 days! As you know, I was at GW orientation which I must say is AMAZING! I had tons of FUN but I'm so tired right now. We walked EVERYWHERE! I met sooo many people and talked to random strangers which was really cool. I got back about 3 hrs ago and in a way I'm missing the GW life. :( It was nice to meet people but at the same time, it would be so much cooler if there were familiar faces or my friends there with me. But a lot of people were by themselves as well. They just brought their families along. There were about 580 freshmen so it was about 1/5 of our class. And there are so many types of people so it was pretty cool.
I got to check-in around 9:30ish. They gave me my packet with books and pamphlets and all sorts of papers and the name-tag and all that stuff and told me what I needed to do. So I went up to the 5th floor of the Marvin Center to go take my picture for my GWorld card. I was dragging my heavy travel bag and my backpack and of course, sweating like crazy and I had to take my picture. I got it today and it's not bad. It's actually pretty good. So I'm happy with it. But I was nervous when I took that picture. After dealing with everything that I needed to do at Marvin Center, I went to Thurston Residential Hall to check-in for my access card and key for my room. I was looking at the map and I was walking to it. I guess a lot of people went from the other side. But I didn't see anyone from my Colonial Inauguration (CI). Haha...I know the name is a little wacky but it works! I was walking down Pennsylvania Avenue and all I see are business people and construction workers. I got nervous. I thought I was lost. I kept looking at the map every few seconds to check where I was and of course, I was carrying my heavy bags and it was extremely hot even though it was only around 10. I finally found it and I got my stuff. But the elevators took forever to come and they were quite small too. So I'm kinda nervous about move-in day. I was on the 3rd floor but there are a total of 9 floors in that building. Crazy, right? And it's a freshman dorm too! So it WILL get crazy. I got to my room and there were 4 beds but the room was pretty big. The view wasn't too good. It was just a back alley but we got a private bathroom. All the rooms have a private bathroom so you'll be lucky if you are in a double. There are rooms where 6 people share the room. They're kinda divided into 2 rooms but you have to share the bathroom with 5 other people. Some of the girls that I got to know were in those kind of rooms so it gets pretty hectic in the morning with 5 other girls.
So after dropping my stuff, I headed back out again. I got to meet the Cabinet (which is kinda like SGA but this group has 30 students mainly trained to advise and help out new students at orientations) at the kickoff. These guys were so cool. They all have different majors and are from different places. They range from sophomore to senior and they are like a little family of their own. They are so spirited and funny too. They did their versions of different songs with their own lyrics and it was really entertaining. They sang the Fight Song so many times during CI and now it's playing in my head! It's nice that this school actually has school spirit!! :P They were also small group leaders. So at dinner we would sit in our small groups and we'd each have a Cabinet member. My small group leader was so cool. His name is Justin and he's gonna be a senior in the fall. He is doing English and Pre-Med majors so I was like yay!! Finally somebody who wasn't doing International Affairs or Political Science and someone who I could actually talk to about pre-med. He's awesome to talk to and he gave me pretty good advise about classes. After dinner, we went to see some skits by the Cabinet which were funny. Afterwards, we got into our small groups again and we just talked for like an hour which was pretty cool. And then there was a fiesta night - more food and more people. There was karaoke too and some of the Cabinet members were just goofing off. It was quite funny. We left that kinda early and me and 2 other girls, we walked around the campus. It was after midnight and the streets were quiet and pretty clear but it seemed pretty safe. We could see the monument too. It was really nice. By the time I got back to my room, my roommates were back. We had our door open and all these guys who walked past our room would stop and say hi and stuff. Some of them actually came in and talked with us. All the guys were really "friendly" during CI. Haha. This was like a big checking out session! But I gotta say...the guys at GW are H.O.T.!! And I've only seen 1/5 of our entering class and about 50 of the upperclassmen. Our school has about 20,000 students so this is gonna be awesome. Haha. It's a nice change. And plus, it's DEFINITELY a party school. It's great! ^_^
Yesterday was just trying to choose classes for fall and trying to figure out your schedule. We didn't really register them till this morning. I'm glad I got all the classes that I wanted but I don't really like the schedule. I didn't want any classes on Fridays and before, I had a writing course from 9:30 to 11am and that's it for Fridays. But when I actually registered for my classes, most of them were already filled so I had to take other sessions and now I have class till 5pm on Fridays which sucks. But I don't have any classes before 9:25am. So I'm taking Bio, Chem, Chinese, Freshman Writing and a required 6-2ks of Proseminar course. It's gonna be hectic with 2 labs! I have 16 credits for the fall semester so that's pretty good though. So yeah, figuring out your classes and schedule and taking all the required stuff, that all took a long time. There was an Activities Fair before dinner so I checked out some stuff. The Dance Team seems really cool. They actually compete in the National Dance Team Championships! There're gonna be tryouts and I hope I make it. *wishing* Dinner was cool. We talked with our small group again. The group isn't that small. There were about at least 25 people in each "small" group. But only about 1/3 of the group showed up for dinner last night. Justin gave us advice about registration. He's really nice. He makes sure he talks to all the people in his group and makes them feel like part of the GW community already. We talked some more about med school and the scary MCATs. It took him 10 hours to take it! *shudder* Anyway, afterwards we went to see the Capitol Steps and they were hilarious. They were soooo good! I was laughing the entire hour. They were amazingly funny. They were making fun of all the political issues and politicians just like SNL and stuff. When it ended, about 60 of us walked into Georgetown. It took us about 10-15 minutes but going in a big group was FUN. And it was sooo pretty there. It was right next to the water and there are a lot of restaurants there. It was pretty busy and there was a huge fountain in the middle of the compound. We went to get some ice cream at Edy's and chilled there for a while. Justin came to me and a friend, Kathryn, and he talked to us and told us some jokes. We walked back to GW campus and went to the Casino Night up on the 5th floor of Marvin Center. There are all these poker tables, pool tables and there is bowling and an arcade all up there. Of course, the best thing about it was there was also a dance floor and a dj who was fantastic! He played all the best dance songs and we were boogy-ing till around 12:30. You know me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE dancing! And the thing was everybody came to GW to party so all these people were dancing and we all were singing along to the songs. The dance floor isn't that big and since all of the people didn't really come to dance, maybe there were about 50 or 60 people dancing. It was awesome cuz everybody who was dancing knew the lyrics so we all were singing along. Even the guys were dancing which was amazing! They were good dancers too. A few of the guys we danced with were pretty cool. I was just having soo much fun. I was finally at a place where the guys aren't too shy to dance and everybody was shaking their bootay and singing along to the songs. Cabinet members were dancing too and they were very good too. I was with Vera, Carrie and Angela and they were fun to dance with. Afterwards, I went back to Thurston with Vera and Carrie and talked. We were all tired but we didn't want the night to end. It was after 2 when I actually went to bed. It was noisy out in the hallway though just like the night before. People were yelling and running around. A group of people came and banged on the door yelling "It's the Fun Police!" I heard this girl and guy laughing around 5 too. That was the taste of Freshman dorms in the fall. It's gonna be sooo crazy!! When we were talking in the room, our door was open again and these guys came and said they were having a party next door and drink some beers. I think they meant the next building cuz if freshmen get caught with alcohol at CI, they'd be expelled. There were so many questions about alcohol though at our small group sessions. All the guys care only about sex and alcohol in college. We got into 4 groups - 2 groups of guys & 2 groups of girls and we listed 10 things that the people of the opposite sex wanted to accomplish in college. The guys' answers were all from their one-track mind. Of course, the girls listed "get laid" for their #1 answer. I think those guys were upperclassmen too and they were picking up the freshmen girls.
Anyway, this morning I registered for my classes and had some breakfast and talked with a few girls. Then there was a closing session where the Cabinet sang some songs and they got kinda emotional too becuz it was their last session. There are 5 CI sessions and this one was the last. But then there're gonna be transfer CI and international CI later this month. I guess they won't be there?? I don't know...but they all hugged and sang "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith as we were leaving. How sad... :( *sniff sniff* That's not cool though. I thought they'd be there to help us out in the fall. *pout* The whole group seems really cool to get to know. I talked to a few of them and they were genuinely nice. There are about 16 girls and 14 guys and they are so tight with each other. They're so close and so spirited. They sang the Fight Song like about 10 times during CI. It was sooo much fun. I'm gonna miss hearing it. I know it's gonna be weird in the fall not really knowing people cuz a lot of people we talked to during CI, I'm pretty sure we're gonna forget and not see them again. I got a few phone numbers and sn's but that's it. But now, I'm excited about college. It'd be really cool to meet a lot of people. Yup...anyway, I'm gonna go now. I'm going up to NY tomorrow to pick up Aye and hang out with Lynn and Godfrey again. They're coming down so we're gonna meet them halfway. It should be fun. But I've been walking sooooo much this past week and a half and not getting enough sleep, I'm so tired. And I go back to work in 2 days which is not good. Sigh...anyway, talk to y'all later! Bye.
