Hey,
Wow, today was an awesome day! Sigh...I went to Great Falls Park with my family and it was breathtaking. Wynn is going back to Charlottesville tomorrow afternoon and Lynn is going back to Boston on Wednesday so this is the last weekend for all of us to be together before we all head in different directions. And I'm so glad we took this trip too. We haven't done something like this all 6 of us in a long time. The ride wasn't too long so we got there in about 20 minutes. And the weather was beautiful today so I had a great time. :)
We got there around 12:30, I think. We wanted to have a picnic and Wynn had cooked some fried rice and we had packed some other food. And when we passed the visitor center, there were picnic tables everywhere but we all didn't feel like eating on man-made tables. So we walked a little further down near the edge of the river. There was an overlook with a lot of rocks. We sat down there and enjoyed the view and had our lunch. And it was like the best place too. Just big enough for us to spread our blanket and the rock was pretty flat but only a little slanted. Haha...Aye and I were kinda slipping off but it wasn't too bad. :P We stayed there a while and of course took many pictures. You know us and pictures. *wink* We love pictures!!! LOL. Oh...speaking of pictures, I got back my pix from Natural Bridge yesterday. They came out great. I really want to post some pix up online linked to this site. I'm not sure how to do it yet and I don't know if I'd ever have time to create this website that I'm so psyched about. Both Aye and I are not that free nowadays! LOL. :P But I really want to post some pix up for people to see.
So yeah, anyway...we walked about 2 miles down the trail just along the river. There were a lot of rocks and cliffs and of course, we had to sit on the very edge! *wink* We went up to the highest cliff, which is called the Mather Gorge, and we (Lynn, Aye and I) sat there at the edge. If you take one or two more steps out front, you'd probably fall down the rocky cliff. But we were careful and we were leaning our feet against some rocks so we weren't in that much danger. We sat there for a while, just talking and watching these Europeans canoeing against the strong current about 500 ft. down. They looked like they were having fun too! We were kinda cheering them on cuz they were trying to go upstream against the strong strong current and they never even passed that same place. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't go past that place. And one of them even waved to us and we waved back. Oh one more thing. So we were just sitting and talking and suddenly this guy was rock-climbing on our cliff! He was climbing up right up to us. We didn't know if we should move or what. But then he made it to the top and took a step up two steps down from us. We asked him how long it took him to climb up and he said, "Just 10 minutes," as casually as possible like it wasn't too hard at all. But stinky stinky! Haha. :P
So meanwhile, our parents and Wynn had gone down the hill a little to the stream which was leading into the river. They called us and we didn't want to leave the spot yet. So we stayed there for a while more and then headed down to where they were. The little stream was yucky though. The water was stagnant a bit and there wasn't much sunlight. We headed downstream and took some more pix on the big rocks. Climbing here and there. It was FUN. :D Aye, Wynn and I headed further down to this little cliff where it was just right next to the water. It was only about 15 or 20 feet up from the water now. We could have gone right up to the spot where you can wade in the water but there were some people fishing so we didn't want to disturb them. We stayed there for a while and watched those people canoeing again. Their base was somewhere near there so they would come back to that side of the river whenever they were tired. We even said hi to them. They looked tired but they were having so much fun!
We started to head back to where our parents and Lynn were and we saw our dad talking to one of the guys who were canoeing. He was talking about canoeing and how he could teach our dad right then. Haha. It was funny. He said he's been doing it for 25 years now but he didn't look that old. He was just a muscular tough man. And he had an accent. I couldn't tell where he was from cuz I only caught about 3 or 4 sentences. But he was definitely European. The guy who was rock-climbing also had an accent and I think they were together. Some of them climbed down from the cliffs and were canoeing or fishing. But yeah, we went our separate ways and were heading back up the trail when another guy came along carrying the big canoe and we chatted a bit. But we let him go on his way cuz we didn't want him to be carrying the boat for a long time. Even though he made it seem like it was light, I know how heavy it must be. So yeah, we came back on the trail and took some more pix. Haha...I swear! We would never finish taking pictures. And our mom always brings about 2 rolls of films extra and we would usually use them up! I think we finished 3 rolls of film today alone. Haha. Crazy girls! *wink*
So we came back home cuz the park closes at 6 and we weren't planning on spending the night. But the ride back home was nice. The wind was so cool and we were passing some farms so we saw a lot of beautiful horses. It was all good. Haha. We grabbed something to eat before we came back home so I just got back a while ago and it's 9pm right now. Well, today was an awesome day and I just thought I would share it with you guys. Tomorrow seems to be looking good too so we'll just have to wait and see how everything goes. But for now, I'll say goodnight and talk to you soon! Ciao! *wink*
