Interview with the Remotes.
The Remotes are a rockin' band from Richmond, Virginia. They have an upcoming Short Run on Mutant Pop. Check 'em out! Below is two of the same interview, but Timmy Remote answers the Q's on one and Jamie Remote answers the Q's on the second. Enjoy!!!
1)How did you all meet, and why did you decide to start the REMOTES?
well, I guess i met bill back in highschool in S. Korea.. we've always been in bands together. we moved to the states and met jamie at bill's sisters graduation at some college. we got along and wanted to start a band of some sorts. i dunno.
2)Who are the major (and minor) influences in your music?
well, I like to say that i originated my kind of music. I never heard of another band that played like us before. I think i'm a musical genious. I've heard of a band called the ramones that kinda sounded like us but, they suck..
3)What is the scene like where you guys are from, and did you draw any influences from it?
the richmond scene is "stellar". we meet old friends at all our shows.. I swear it's so cool cause i know everyone at our shows.. all 5 of them. rock n' roll
4)Who writes most of the songs, and how do they usually get written?
well, we normally write songs seperately and bring them into practice. then we work on them together.. it's pretty boring actually.
5)How do you feel about your upcoming release on Mutant Pop?
I'm really glad that timbo is helping us release our srcd.. It makes me wanna have sex with someone. but.. er.. i .. don't even get laid in my dreams. damn.. maybe i'll get some now.
6)Have you written any other songs besides the ones that are going to appear on your Mutant Pop Short Run?
we actually have 5 songs that are all done that we play at shows and 4 or 5 more in the works.. we are going in a direction that is more rockin and bitter..
7)Any other future projects planned for the REMOTES?
hopefully we will record our five new songs and do a split cd with some great band.. I think we are also going to have a theme album series.. two of which is celery with a K "children of the Korn". and tyrone tyrone tyrone.
8)Where any of you in bands prioir to the REMOTES, and/or do any of you have any side projects going?
we have all been in several bands before.. me and bill were both in got milf? that was fun..
9)How did the Pre-Mutant Pop fest show go?
it was awesome.. we got to meet a lotta people and bands that were genuinely nice. it rocked.. i had alotta fun.. timbo was also very cool.. we are glad to be working with him.. Also, I saw the biggest balls ever in my life.. it scared the crap outta me.. they were the size of a grapefruit.. it was phenominal.. talk about econo tea bags.. geesh. check out nate schmoes balls if you get a chance.. they are huge..
10)Any additional comments?
Uhm thanks for doing an interview and helping us get in contact with she's gone rec. they really were nice..
JAMIE'S RESPONSE
1)How did you all meet, and why did you decide to start the REMOTES?
well..hmmm......i think it was sometme in '77. dylan was makin a surprise appearance in the village, so of course i was there. there was this hot korean, but i hit on billy instead. then timmy came and tried to fight me cause i was talkin to his bitch. maybe it was '78.
2)Who are the major (and minor) influences in your music?
i would HAVE to say steve perry. not so much Journey as the solo stuff. "street talk" is a monumental rock album. also the unrelated segments. and this band from queens, the ramones.
3)What is the scene like where you guys are from, and did you draw any influences from it?
i cant get ENOUGH of the richmond scene!!! as soon as i get some piercings and tatoos, i bet they might even TALK to me!! YES!!
4)Who writes most of the songs, and how do they usually get written?
basically, i write the songs. tri-annually we assemble a 37-member committee consisting of volunteers, pre-schoolers, and politicians. at this meeting, we split into teams and assign everyone a new song. after a hearty baseball series, the winning team's songs get recorded. unless, of course, they get vetoed at the bi-weekly mini-golf game.
5)How do you feel about your upcoming release on Mutant Pop?
we are getting released on Mutant Pop? how come no one told me??!! RAD!! YES!! thats AWESOME!!! is this interview for Spin? when is the photo shoot? seriously. thats cool. timbo rocks. we owe him gifts.
6)Have you written any other songs besides the ones that are going to appear on your Mutant Pop Short Run?
yes. the baseball game is this friday. i am hoping for the ones that sound like norwegian gay deathpunk. im serious. really.
7)Any other future projects planned for the REMOTES?
yes. lots. "you cant have rEMOtes without 'emo'" is one. also, "10-Second-Rule"..a hardcore look at eating food before it has a chance to collect germs from the floor.
8)Where any of you in bands prioir to the REMOTES, and/or do any of you have any side projects going?
yes. im in a goth band called "midnight hour". and a riot grrl outfit called "the makebelieves"
9)How did the Pre-Mutant Pop fest show go?
it was SOOOOO fun. woulda been better if i wasn't anti-social. the wallys, proteens and shes gone kids are RAD!!! big hello (ha) to timbo and stuffy's.
10)Any additional comments?
no. not really.
