THE COLLISIONS!

A cool pop punk band from Canada. Check 'em out!!!

1) How did you guys decide to start the Collisions, and when did you guys get the band going?

We'd wanted to be in a band for a long time, and we all played instruments. When Shawn and I started writing songs we had the natural inclination for people to hear them, so we started the band. For a while it was just Shawn, Johnny and myself without a drummer jamming together. In October of '98 we found a drummer, and played our first show in late November.

2) Who is your biggest influence?

I guess I'd have to say Screeching Weasel. We're into a lot of other pop-punk bands too, like the Queers, MTX, and pretty much anything on Mutant Pop.

3) I hear you guys live near Ruth's Hat. Have they had any effect on your music at all?

Yeah they have. Shawn and I couldn't do harmonies before we met them. I guess we learned from the masters! They've also hooked us up with numerous shows, and they got our record distributed through Mutant Pop.

 4) I know you have a 7" out on Sorda Pop Records. Besides this, is there anything else you guys have out (any other records, demos, or cool stuff like that)?

We have a terrible demo that was recorded on a four-track. We still have a few copies left, and we sell them at shows.

5)Besides the songs appearing on "Boy, What an Idiot", do you have any other songs that you have written?

To date we've written about forty songs. We have about 16 that we still play, due mostly to the crappiness of the other songs.

6)Who writes most of your songs, and how do they usually get put into music?

Shawn or I will come up with some part of the song, like a riff, lead guitar part or melody. Once one of us has a near completed song, Shawn and I sit down together and put it all together. Sometimes one of us will write an entire song ourselves, but usually it's a collaborative effort between myself and Shawn.

7)Do any of you have any bands you are in on the side, or bands you were in previous to the Collisions?

I'm in a band called Go Goblin, which is a mixture between 50's rock and horror punk. Shawn and Cusick are in a band called the Carlingtons, which is basically simple pop-punk.

8)Do you guys have any plans for future releases?

We're doing a 7" with Worn Out Records, which will be themed entirely around horror movies. We'll also be doing a split 7" with Go Goblin on EVILution Records. We also might be doing a short-run CD with Mutant Pop.

9)What is your favorite Ramones album of all time?

I love the first four albums equally. They all have really cool aspects to them. If I had to choose I guess I'd say "Road to Ruin". I'm not sure about the other guys....

10) Do you guys do lots of shows around your area, and/or do you plan on doing any shows in the US or other parts of Canada?

We're always playing locally, like almost every weekend. We'll play pretty much any show within driving distance, for free if necessary. We've got plans to do a tour of the midwestern US next summer, which I'm really looking forward to.

11) Any additional comments?
