This month’s artist is no one other then the lovely,
Amazing musical skilled; may I ad pretty. Miho Hatori.

In today’s world of
music there really isn’t that many artist out there who do their own thing not
hoping to become big but to just make music because it makes them happy. Artist that inspire us to be better people
and help make the world a little better.
Even If you think that it doesn’t really matter how much impact a Group
or Artist has when it come to making the world a better place. But if it makes you want to do what you
can. Then doesn’t that prove that music
has the power to do things on a big level?
Miho Hatori one of the founders of a
great
underground New York hip hop/ jazz group; Cibo Matto. More
than any other band making music at the time, Cibo Matto’s songs capture the
excitement and ethnic diversity of New York City’s streets. Taking different styles of music from Rap
and Jazz to Metal and Salsa and mixing it together, the out come. Music you’ve never heard before.
Miho came to America from Tokyo, in
the early 1990's, to study at an English school. Miho had met some minor
success in Tokyo while singing Hip Hop in a Japanese band named
"Kimidori". She developed her ability to get the dance floor
grooving, while working as a club DJ in Tokyo. In addition, she learned about
different styles of music while working in a record shop. Miho has eclectic
tastes in music. Like her love for
gourmet food, her musical style takes on a very cool international flavor. Miho
sings the songs that Cibo Matto performs in languages that include English,
Japanese, French, and Spanish. She
describes the bands as people always expect you to choose sides between digital
or analog, old school, new school, even between Chinese or Italian food. Cibo
Matto loves all food.
Miho was not satisfied to continue to
leave all the musical composition to Yuka Honda. Neither was it Yuka’s intent
to remain in control of the musical arrangements. With Miho’s general love for
musical expression, she began to teach herself to play guitar and drums. But Instead of learning basic blues, rock,
and folk guitar or other western music that revolved around the 1,4,5 standard
chord progression. Miho set out to master more complex chords and progressions
found in Brazilian compositions. The last Cibo Matto record features
compositions based on sophisticated chord arrangements that Miho crafted. But you would think one band was more then
to much work for two young schoolgirls from New York. They joined up with a band as a side project. “Butter 08 “ help show the other
artist out there that she was just as much a artist as every one else. Letting her music skills show. She not only sang vocals but, piano, organ,
and drums.
It looked as if Miho was grow fast in
the under ground music world. Joining
up with Dan "The Automator" Nakamura
and Prince Paul. On a track for the 99 released hit cd Handsome Boy Modeling
School. Miho preformed
with
Mike D. Metaphysical
(A Good Day). Miho can
begin a song like "Sunday" from "Stereotype A" with a heavy
duty rap and close the tune singing a sweet, wispy melody. Her vocal ability
ranges from Bossa Nova to Punk Rock to R&B. She has sung on several albums
with the Beastie Boys.
And even Toured to Tibet. For the freedom concert. Most recently Miho has joined forces with Smokey Hormel to form
an acoustic Brazilian Jazz ensemble known as "Smokey and Miho". Her and Hormel toured along side with beck
and learn of each other love for Bossa Nova music. But once again the lovely Miho Hatori can’t sit still with only
one band. She joined back up with Dan
"The Automator" Nakamura and Jamie Hewlett, creator of the cult Tank
Girl. Along with many other Great
Artist such as, Blur's
Damon Albarn, Chris Frantz and Tina
Weymouth of Tom
Tom Club, Buena
Vista Social Club's veteran Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer. Also Del
Tha Funkee Homosapien, Kid Koala, and more.. She helped in the creation of the Hit 19-2000 from the goillaz first record. With this I would like to add that it is
hard to find artist such As Miho Hatori that have made a big impacted on the
music world and other artist as well.
Performing in many bands. Doing
side work with other bands. From So Many Worlds, Action Figure Party and Yoko Ono to the Baldwin Brothers, The
