| 06/01/03 Well I've finally found an internet cafe and I've got the chance to post a decent update on what has been happening. After my last posting I headed down to Kitchener/Waterloo to catch up with my good Canadian friend Lindsay, who some of you may have met when she was studying in Adelaide in 2001. I ended up staying with Lindsay and her family for a full week and had a great New Years Eve with her and her friends. We started off by having a few warm up drinks at her friend's house. I was pretty keen to put a dent in the 1.125 litre of Smirnoff Blue (50%) Vodka that I picked up Duty Free for $25, so before long I was well and trully warmed up (and you need it in this weather). A lot of Canadians in this region have hardly travelled beyond their home town so my accent naturally became I point of interest and we had a few laughs over the differences in words we use (they thought it was hilarious that what they call vans we call people movers). After warm up drinks we headed to a big nightclub near by. For $10 entrance we got $2.50 drinks all night so it was great value and they even put on a bit of food. We danced hard all night and gradually the night's proceedings became a bit of a blure. |

| I do remember getting in a cab and heading to a huge house party, just like you see in American College movies. I don't know how these guys put up with having their houses so trashed, there were people everywhere. One of the few memories I have of the house party was discovering a huge jar of pickled gerkins in the kitchen and standing around with a bunch of Canadians while I chomped away on the Gerkins. Eventually we some how all ended up crashing at another house near by. I woke up in a sea of sleeping bags and people wondering where the hell I was and who were all these people. Once everyone got up we had a huge cook up of bacon and eggs, the perfect hangover cure. Somehow, during all the chaos of the previous night, I managed to keep my bottle of Vodka and still have a good 750ml left to make my way through on another occasion. Since New Years Eve I've been toboganning (actually they use these things called GTs over here which are more like snow based go karts and are great fun). I also went X-Country skiing and bowling yesterday. The bowling is pretty cool here on a Saturday night, they have DJs and give away heaps of free games and prizes. I had my job interview with OES last Thursday and was pretty happy with how things went. The work looks very challenging, I'll be thrown right into full analogue and digital hardware design (that one is in there for those I went to Uni with). I was interviewed by four engineers over two hours (including a tour). I'm really hoping I get the job because it is going to be great for my career but it's definately going to make for a tough year. If you are interested in finding out more about my potential employer then check out their web site using the link to the right. |

| I should find out about the job this Wednesday and I'll be finding an apartment to move into straight away if I'm succesfull. There are a lot of technology companies in South Western Ontario so I'll start doing some door knocking if I don't get the OES job. I'll post something on this web site as soon as I find out about the job. I hope you have enjoyed reading this posting. Don't forget, you can always send me an email at [email protected].
