Back in good old Dublin

Wednesday 5th of May

Well after a great month of travel I'm back in Dublin and adjusting to the realities of having to earn enough money to cover my living costs and doing the whole 'job hunting' thing.

A little update on the position in Oxford that I mentioned to a lot of you is due. After I flew out of Hong Kong two Sundays ago I arrived back in London that night and caught a bus up to Oxford in the off chance that the unconfirmed second interview with Ebbon-Dacs would take place on the Monday or Tuesday. I knew that there was a chance that the meeting wouldn't take place but it was far cheaper for me to go up there on the way through to Dublin than to have to specially fly over later from Dublin for an interview so I thought I'd head up there anyway.

So I rang the recruitment company from Oxford on the Monday morning only to find out that my perspective manager had just started 2 weeks of leave and the meeting wouldn't take place. The blame for this, I think, falls back on the recruitment company who don't seem to have communicated to Ebbon-Dacs the date of my arrival back in the U.K until the very last minute after I rang them from Hong Kong (despite the fact I emailed them with my return date from Sydney some 2 weeks earlier).
So on the Tuesday afternoon I flew over to Dublin and after a couple of nights in town I headed off on a 3 day tour of the South of the Island which was brilliant. I'm now back in Dublin and back working for Fitzers Restaurant while I wait on word of the second interview in Oxford.

Because my perspective manager doesn't return until next Monday there is no way for the recruitment company to confirm the date of the second interview. Fitzers has offered me a week of full time shifts next week (one of the bar staff is on holiday for the week) and I've decided that the least risky and most financially sensible thing is to take up the offer and delay any second interview until at least 2 weeks time. The other option is to turn down the offer at Fitzers and hope that I get an interview in Oxford next Tuesday but I'll be left high and dry if for some reason it can't take place that soon.

Despite everything that has happened I am still fairly confident that the second interview will take place in a couple of weeks and a job offer will be made if we can agree on the terms. It's just disappointing that the recruitment company handled arranging the second interview so poorly.

The good news is that I'm back earning Euros at Fitzers and I'm not bleeding money and I'll be easily able to cover my living costs plus save up a bit of money over the next two weeks to help me get on my feet in the U.K when I get there.
