I'll get to you eventually Ireland!

02.02.04, 5:15pm, Munich Airport

Hey all,

well to some of you this will come as no suprise, particularly to Lou since she has been here and done this with me before. You see, my nedsadventures followers, I have for the second time in my life missed my flight out of Munich airport. The first was flying to Berlin to meet Lou's family, that time I was 50 Euro out of pocket. This time I have missed my Easyjet flight to London/Stansted and so in turn missed my RyanAir flight from Stansted to Dublin. I know, I know, I should have learnt my lesson by now, and also this must be at least the 5th time I have been to Munich airport so I can't use the excuse of not knowing how long it would take to get here.

But fear not, what could have been a very expensive mistake looks to only be a small inconvenience, including a night sleeping on the floor in Stansted. Easyjet was good enough to put me on another flight this evening for no charge and I changed my RyanAir flight to tomorrow morning for 60 Euro (100 Aus) seeing I only payed 50 Euro to start with for my flights I'm still doing very well. The only downside is the looming night in Stansted Airport. I suppose sleeping in an airport is one of those things that never makes it to the 'list of things to do in this lifetime list' for obvious reasons but then it was bound to happen at some stage in my adventures.

This is especially the case given my record for getting my flights on time.

Anyway, thanks to the good old internet I've been able to do a little research on sleeping in Stansted Airport and I'm glad to say the reviews are generally quite positive, all things considered (check out http://www.sleepinginairports.net/europe/londonstansted.htm for details). Some of the comments include

"I've slept at Stansted several times in the past year, and always found it to be very tolerable" Kate Lancaster

"Very clean and safe, excellent toilets" Oliver Haiste

"Personally I would recommend it" Andrew

"the place is very secure and clean" Mary-Clare and Stephen

"Freezing at night, I suggest a few lagers before bedding down will help you sleep" ?. Thanks ?, I'll be sure to head your advice on that one.

"Comfy padded seating, and the ventilation's humming lulls you into sleep. Spotless washrooms. Absolutely no complaint". Katharina Hoffman

So with such great reviews who wouldn't want to spend a night in Stansted? I'm suprised it's not the talk of Europe. Sure Munich airport may have free coffee, newspapers, and a big screen T.V but everyones bunking up at Stansted! It appears the only complaints from our reviewers was the lack of seats (but I have my sleeping mat) and that the place was a little noisy. Well I've got my trusty tent on me anyway so if worse comes to worse I'll spend a night out on a paddock with some of those crazy British cows.

One reviewers was kind enough to include details of a good curry house nearbye so I might head there for dinner and learn a little bit about good old England (last time I was there was in 95).

So Stnasted here I come. Ireland, you'll have to wait one more night but I'm going to be glad damn when I throw myself onto my bed at Jacob's Hostel in central Dublin tomorrow, that's for sure.

Till next time.
Ned.
