Latest News!

My big sis, Georgie, has finalised the date for her wedding which will be in Sydney on the 10th of April (the day after my birthday)! Lou and I are planning on flying straight into Sydney on the 9th of April and then flying on to Adelaide early on the following week so you can expect me to be back in town from roughly the 13th until the 24th of April. Im looking forward to heading down to the Exeter for a few beers with everyone again soon after I arrive.

October 28, 2003,

4 countries in one day, where else in the world can you do that?

Hey all,

Well its been quite some time since I updated the web site and lots has happened since the Oktoberfest so I decided it was about time for an update.

As some of you know Lous family is visiting us in Germany at the moment. Originally we were expecting just Lous parents and her grandma but they surprised us by bring the whole gang along (Lous sister Emily, 7 month old niece Eliza, brother in law Graham, Brother Dan, Aunty Ngarie, Lous parents James and Julie, and her Grandma, Mary). In total, with Lou and I joining the group, there are 9 and a half of us.

Lou and I flew up to Berlin to meet them when they arrived two Saturdays ago on the 18th and we did some sightseeing with them around the city.
I had to fly back on the Monday morning for work and Lou stayed with them and traveled through Prague and Salzburg before arriving in Augsburg last Friday night. The next morning we all headed for Lindau, a little island town in Lake Constance, which forms part of the border between Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Its a pretty spectacular part of the world with the Swiss Alps exploding from the edge of the lake and the early stages of the Rhine River winding through a wide valley carved into the mountains. On the Sunday we drove through Austria and into Switzerland to explore some of the countryside and drive through the mountains. The weather was great with perfect visibility and the scenery was spectacular (see the photos). We decided to pop by Liechtenstein, a tiny country made up from a small section of the Rhine Valley that falls on the Austrian and Swiss border, bringing us to a total of 4 countries visited in the one day.

On Monday morning I caught a train back to Augsburg for work and the others made
their way back to Augsburg via Neuchwanstein, the fairytale castle that sits on the
edge of the Bavarian Alps in the south. After I finished my German Class I joined
them at their hotel where they were having dinner. After a couple of beers over dinner
we decided to head to Murphys Law, a very popular Irish Pub just next door to their
hotel, for a few more beers. A few beers turned into a lot and we were the last ones
left in the pub when they finally closed up at 2am.

A little bit worse for wear I made my way to work the next morning and at lunchtime Lou, James, and Graham came to work and I gave them a tour. I think they were suitably impressed (its not hard to impress when youre sitting on top of an army of robots).

Tomorrow they continue onto the Black Forest and Im joining them again for the weekend to see the area near Cologne in the central West of Germany with them.

Till next time,

Ned.
