Rumor Mill: Expansion On The Eastern Front
With two eastern teams folding this off-season, one can only speculate what will happen to the Saskatchewan Hockey Leagues Eastern Division.  It has been made official that there will indeed be 12 teams in the league for 07-08 season.  Whether those teams will lie on the Eastern side of the nation or not is still in question.  If an expansion team comes in off the west coast will the Brantown Slammers be moved to the Eastern Division?   This would erase Western Division rivalries that are apart of the heritage of the SHL.  In all likeliness during this 21st century oil boom, the only part of the nation that can afford an expansion SHL franchise is a city in the mid-eastern provinces.  It is certain that most fanatics would like to see both expansion cities join the Eastern Division.

Looking Ahead: The Saskatchewan Hockey League Launches The Hot Stove

After months of planning the Saskatchewan Hockey League is proud to present the first Saskatchewan Hockey League owned message board for the fans.  The SHL Board of Directors launched The Hot Stove message board this afernoon from a press conference inside the Gatorade Center in Dionland, RF.  The Hot Stove gives the fans a chance to interact about the latest breaking news around the league.  With the TV ratings increasing for all Television stations with a SHL contract the message board is sure to make the ratings sky rocket even more in the 2007-2008 hockey season.  Look in the future for there to be posts from both SHL General Managers and players in the coming months before the 2007 SHL Draft.

In Review: Gilmore Gold Jackets Capture The Copenhagen Cup

The Gilmore Gold Jackets are the first expansion team to win the Copenhagen Cup since the RumpyVill Roughosers did it in the inaugaral year or the Saskatchewan Hockey League.  The Gold Jackets moved into first place of the SHL regular seson on the final night of the schedule for the first time to capture the regular season championship.  They are the second team to win the regular season championship and the Copenhagen Cup, the last team to do it were the Dionland Twisters in the 2003-2004 season.  The game seven OT victory was a fitting way to end an exciting season in Gilmore.  Jackets GM Hans Johansen was ecstatic about his teams Championship season and is looking forward to the 2007-2008 season to attempt to be the first team in SHL history to win consecutive Copenhagen Cups. Looking Ahead: The Divisional Championiships Are Ready To Begin
The Adamville Falcons were ousted out of the playoffs by the Scott City Grrrowl; with the Grrrowl now moving onto the Eastern Division Final to face the Brantown Slammers in a rematch of last seasons Copenhagen Cup Final.  The Dionland Twisters advanced past Fort Macfie; they will face-off against the expansion Gold Jackets who have already claimed the regular season championship and wtith that earned a bye to the Western Division Final.  The semi-finals of the Copenhagen Cup playoffs will show the passion and heart this league is made of.

Looking Ahead: Who Will Get The Sixth And Final Playoff Spot
The SHL Playoffs are looming closer and closer and with the Jackets and Slammers recently clinching playoff spots and the Twisters, Grrrowl, and Gangbang all having a solid gap between them and the sixth place Gregville Assassines, the only real question is who will be the sixth place team to make it to the Copenhagen Cup playoffs.  Gregville and Adamville have been fighting it out for that spot for past couple weeks but with Trach City only four points out, Olchowyville eight points out and Marktown ten points out.  All of these five teams have a pretty good chance of reaching the playoffs, it's all a matter of what team can gel together in the last three games and what GM can make his team better before the March 1st trade deadline.

Looking Ahead: Trade Deadline Little More Then A Month Away

With the All-Star Break all said and done it only means one thing; the stretch run.  With the stretch run comes one important date; March 1st the date of the SHL Trade Deadline.  With this comes some important decision lie ahead for SHL General Managers.  Which teams should keep there team chemistry as is and which teams should make a blockbuster or two to make a serious run for the Copenhagen Cup.  Marktown Petes GM Mark Peterson realizes his squad is 20 points out of a playoff spot but if Ray Emery can stand on his head it isn't realistic if they pick up another sniper or two for them to squeeze into the playoffs. Over confident GM Dion Berg has to consider whether his currently first place squad is strong enough to last in the playoffs or crash and burn like they did in last years postseason.  Adamville Falcons GM Adam Wilkinson has to look at if the hot streak his team is on will last or if they need more help to hold onto the 6th and final playoff spot which they are in posession of right now.  Things should get very interesting.

In Review: Grrrowl Players Shine At Home In 2nd Annual All-Star Game

Joe Thornton, Marian Hossa, and Mikka Kiprusoff all shun at home infront of the Scott City faithful at the Great Eastern Forum in the 2nd Annual All-Star Game.  Mikka Kiprusoff shut out the Western Division in the first period of the game he played until Roberto Luongo took over for him.  Marian Hossa was able to notch two goals, and Joe Thornton picked up four goals earning himself All-Star Game MVP honors.  After winning All-Star Game MVP in last year's game; Alexander Ovechkin was only able to get a single goal in this years game. Scott City put on quite the show and the bidding for next years All-Star Game should begin, most likely the game will be held in a Western Division city after two straight All-Star Games being held in Eastern Division cities. In Review:  And It's The All-Star Break

The Saskatchewan Hockey League has reached the All-Star Break, some needing the break more than others.  For example the banged up and somewhat slumping Scot City Grrrowl couldn't have asked for a better time for the break to hit so they can rest some bodies.  On the other hand the red hot streaking Adamville Falcons have the break coming right after a 5-0 pounding on the Grrrowl.  Hopefully for the Falcons sake they can keep this momentum after break too.  Teams like the Olchowyville Leafs and Gregville Assassines sit down and evaluate their squads to see what they have to do to make a serious playoff run.  Then the Marktown Petes take time to decide if they have any chance in hell to make the Copenhagen Cup Playoffs or if they should start scouting for next year already. Looking Ahead: SHL GM Charity Christmas  Game In The Works

The SHL has announced they are planning a chairty GM Christmas Shinny Game to take place on December 23 a day after the SHL players go on Christmas holidays.  Plans are still in the works but it looks as if the game will be held at the Birch Hills Arena. All proceeds of the game go towards the Stephan Danielson Foundation of Hope.  Stephan Danielson himseld might even suit up for the game.  All GM"s are expected to be in the game the only question marks are Trent Rumpel who has always stated he has made a family commitment in Wadena and Jesse Trach is unsure of his availability of the game.  Other celebrities joining the game could be former SHL GM's Kyle Gordon and Lee McCutcheon aswell as the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCJHL's Assistant Coach Jaret Engele.  The game should be an absolute shitshow and don't be surpised if a few fists fly between the GM's. Rumor Mill: Americans GM Trach Not Showing Up To Work

General Manager of the Trach City Americans, Jesse Trach has reportedly been missing days at the office between games.  This rumor became evidently true when Trach was not in attendance at Ken's Cresting Arena when the Americans were defeated by the Twisters 4-2 last Saturday.  This rumor would also prove true with the performance the Americans are putting out is not to shabby with what Trach has given Head Coach Patrick Roy to work with.  The league does not set a fine for this type of incident it is solely up to Trach City American President and Chief Executive Officer Tony Esposito.  This incident again can be completely a myth, we will see what comes about this matter as more information comes our way. In Review: Should Falcons Give Cherry The Blame

The blame was bestowed on Don Cherry for the Adamville Falcons worst start in franchise history, but can you really blame Cherry?  Sure he is a part of the drafting process and who they rank on there pre draft depth chart.  What the Falcons need to consider is if they need a major shake up.  Henri Richard steps in as interim Head Coach but was he running the forwards effectively as needed prior to Cherry's firing.  GM Adam Wilkinson should take some of the blame for the poor team he drafted.  Obviously the Falcons did have the last pick in this years draft but the skilled players they did not draft such as team captain Daniel Alfredsson and speedster Martin St. Louis are not performing.  The lone bright spot is Ilya Kovalchuk, but other players will need to step up big if the Falcons want to turn this so far wreck of a season around. Looking Ahead: Different Approaches by Different Organizations
The way a coach treats you early in the season is the way you are going to respond all year.  We are not here to tell you who is right and who is wrong we are just simply noting the facts.  In Scott City Head Coach Guy Lafleur announced after the 2-1 loss to Trach City  that the Grrrrowl would be bagskated monday morning after there unsuccesful results.  In Marktown; after they were defeated 3-1 to the hands of the Gilmore Gold Jackets, the Petes finally named their Captain giving the honors to Ryan Smyth hoping to inspire the club heading into their home opener against the Grrrowl.  After losing 5-1 to the Dionland Twisters Fort Macfie Gangbang GM Craig Macfie shook the loss of easily and was quoted by saying "It doesn't matter where you are in the standings after week one. What matters is where you are after week 20." (read more)

In Review: Brantown Slammers Raise Championship Banne
rs

The final piece of the 2005-2006 season was put into place Wednesday night when the Brantown Slammers raised their Western Division and Copenhagen Cup Championship Banners to the rafters of the Brantown Communiplex.  Another thing that came to an end Wednesday night was the celebration from Slammer personnel and a reality check kicked in to get ready for a repeat of last season.  The only returning players Mats Sundin and Peter Forsberg who have been with the Slammer organization from the beginning alongside General Manager Brandon Allen were almost close to shedding tears Wednesday. ( like they did last April when they defeated Scott City) The threesomel felt the pride of Chizdale as the Banners were raised because they know how much it meant to the fans. (read more)

Grrrowl Get Past Falcons And Prepare To Battle Slammers
SCOTT CITY, TC -- The Scott City Grrrowl have defeated the Adamville Falcons in the Eastern Division semi-final best-of-seven series winning four games to one.  The Grrrowls first overall draft pick in this years draft Joe Thornton finally paid dividends after doing less then what he was expected in the regular season he came up with 4 goals and 6 assists in five games.  The Grrrowl now set to face-off against the Brantown Slammers.  The seven game series will be a rematch of last years Copenhagen Cup Final where the Grrrowl fell to the Slammers four games to two.  In the Western Division semi-finals the Dionland Twisters used overtime in a controversial game seven to oust the Fort Macfie Gangbang out of the playoffs.  Marian Gaborik scored on the powerplay at 6:59 in the second overtime of game seven to give the Twisters the four games to three series win.  The Twisters now prepare to go up against the expansion Gilmore Gold Jackets who won the regular season title.  Many people were expecting the Twisters to have an early playoff exit for the second consecutive season but proved the critics wrong and now the East and West Division champions are set for some epic playoff match-ups. Gold Jackets Win The 2006-2007 Copenhagen Cup
GILMORE, GC--  The most exciting finish in Saskatchewan Hockey League playoff history happened in Game Seven of the 2006-2007 Copenhagen Cup final between the Gilmore Gold Jackets and the Brantown Slammers.  After the Gold Jackets took a three games to none lead in the best-of-seven series the Slammers were able to battle back to force a seventh and deciding game.  Brantown tied Game Seven at three goals a piece midway through the third period to eventually send the game, the series, and the Copenhagen Cup Championship to sudden death overtime.  Peter Forsberg of the Slammers scored 12:57 into the overtime period and Brantown thought they had repeated as Copenhagen Cup Champions.  After the entire team was on the ice celebrating, veteran SHL referee Mick Magoo decided to go upstairs on the goal after Jackets head coach Hans Johansen stormed onto the ice demanding the goal be reviewed due to Mats Sundin interfering with Jackets goaltender Marty Turco while Forsberg scored.  Sure enough the goal was disallowed and after the mess was cleaned up and action resumed. It was the Gold Jackets captain Jamie Langenbruner scoring at 17:27 on a one timer from Daniel Sedin to beat Dwayne Roloson blocker side to give the expansion Gold Jackets the series victory to capture the Copenhagen Cup.  Langenbrunner was named Playoff MVP and moments later hoisted the Copenhagen Cup for his team. Slammers And Jackets To Meet In Copenhagen Cup Final
BRANTOWN, CD -- The Brantown Slammers have eliminated the Scott City Grrrowl from the post-season for the second straight year in a row and now have a chance of becoming the first SHL team to ever win two Copenhagen Cups, let alone back-to-back Championships.  The Slammers eliminated the Grrrowl after a 3-1 victory in Game five to win the Eastern Division best-of-seven series four games to one.  The Grrrowl exit the playoffs as the Eastern Division Champions for the third straight year.  The reason they leave this year as Eastern Division Champions is due to the crossover from the Slammers from the Western Division to the Eastern Division Final.  In the Western Division Final the regular season champions; the Gilmore Gold Jackets dominated the Dionland Twisters sweeping there best-of-seven series and winning each game by at least three goals.  Brantown will now look to repeat as Copenhagen Cup Champions against the expansion Gilmore Gold Jackets.  The teams tied for first place in the regular season but because of Gilmore's winning record against Brantown they clinched first place and now have the pivotal home ice advantage in the Copenhagen Cup Championship series.             ALEXANDER BAY, TC --  The SHL Awards Show was held Sunday night at the Alexander Bay Events Centre in Alexander Bay, TC.  The annual awards show brings every season to an end, with this year being quite special with the three expansion teams brought into the league.  The night kicked off with cocktails; General Managers and players alike were reminiscing on the season that was.  Marktown Petes GM Mark Peterson was half cut before he got to the Alexander Bay Events Centre.  Supper was held two hours laters, a fine meal was prepared by The Denise Berg Catering Company.  Finally an hour later the players and General Managers were shuffled into the auditorium where the TV Crews from across the nation picked up the live feed.  The first award of the night presented was the Rooke of the Year,  presenting the award was SHL alumni Steve Yzerman.  After announcing the nominees the winner of the 2007 Rookie of the Year was Evgeni Malkin of the Gregville Assassines. Goaltender of the Year was the next award to be handed out.  Jim Carr of 640 The Heat in Dionland, RF was the presenter of the award, after the nominations were announced, Martin Brodeur of the Olchowyville Leafs was named the award recipient. Scott City Grrrowl Fire Guy Lafleur As Head Coach
SCOTT CITY, TC -- A month and a half after the 2007 Copenhagen Cup Champions were crowned, the Scott City Grrrowl have fired Guy Lafleur as head coach.  Scott City Grrrowl General Manager Scott Macfie made the announcement Monday night at a press conference in the Tommy Vercetti Ballroom at the Great Eastern Forum.  Macfie fresh off a May long weekend pilsner-fest fishing trip with Marktown Petes GM Mark Peterson on the Battle River, just east of Marktown told the media the working environment relationship between him and Lafleur wasn't working out.  Macfie stated "Guy was able to lead us to our third straight Eastern Division Championship, but the people of Scott City deserve a Copenhagen Cup, and we plan to deliver them a championship after finding the correct man for the job."  Macfie didn't say who or when the Grrrowl would name a replacement for Lafleur and also didn't rule himself out for the head coach position.  Only time will tell whether or not the Grrrowl can bring a Copenhagen Cup to Scott City.  Possible names that have been circulating around the Saskatchewan Hockey League chat rooms and message boards for the Grrrowl to name as head coach are Paul Henderson who is currently CEO of the Grrrowl, former quack attack member Adam Banks, former Charlestown Chief Ned Braden, and former head coach of the Adamville Falcons Don Cherry.
Guy Lafleur is no longer the   head coach of the Scott City Grrrowl
The Nut Town Natives Are No More
NUT TOWN, ED After two full seasons in the Saskatchewan Hockey League the Nut Town Natives have folded their franchise.  A drastic decrease in ticket sales last season seen the 17,905 capacity Infinity Centre in Nut Town have a regular season attendance average of just over 9,000.  The Natives organizations decline in ticket sales came after finishing in 5th place in their expansion year then following it up with a degrading 11th place finish in the 2006-2007 hockey season.  Natives General Manager Travis Nutting stated at the press conference Monday evening inside the Infinity Centre "We are deeply saddened as an organization and as a vivid part of our community that we have to fold our franchise.  We owe the fans of Nut Town that stuck with us in tough times this season a sincere apology."  The news comes after rumors that fellow expansion organization in the 2005-2006 season the Trach City Americans are also having financial woes.
The Infinity Center in Nut Town, ED will be used
strictly as a basketball arena in the 2007-2008 season.
DIONLAND, RF -- One week after a brawl broke out outside a night club in downtown Dionland involving three current SHL General Managers; the assault charges from two Dionland men have been dropped.  Three current SHL GMs Mark Peterson, Dion Berg, and Scott Macfie along with former Nut Town Native GM Travis Nutting and Derek Berg a chairman leading an organization to get a franchise in the SHL for next season were involved in a kerfuffle outside the PIT night club in downtown Dionland.  According to reports Derek Berg was shoved when Dereks brother Dion thinking he was a celebrity in the town backed him up, things escalated very quickly and pretty soon Peterson was being thrown around downtown Dionland like a rag doll.  I guess fans in Dionland dont appreciate the Twisters as much as thought and the SHL celebrities had to escape the crowd in Macfies 2007 GMC Sierra.  According to witnesses Adamville Falcons GM Adam Wilkinson left the night club twenty minutes before the brawl broke out.  The assault charges were dropped by two twenty year old men from the Dionland district this afternoon; it's believed they were payed out by Macfies oil company Mac-Black-Gold.
Charges Against SHL General Mangers Dropped

TRACH CITY, GC -- Yes it is official; there will be two expansion teams in the Saskatchewan Hockey League in the 2007-2008 campaign.  The Trach City Americans followed there expansion cousins from 2005-2006 season the Nut Town Natives by folding there franchise in only there second year.  They also join the likes of fellow 05-06 expansion club the Leeville Landcrushers whom only lasted one season compared to the two seasons for the Natives and the Americans.  The Americans have had trouble with management since the day they were ordained into the league.  They have had the teams that could have been serious contenders if it hadnt been for the lack of commitment in the managerial department.
Trach City Joins Nut Town By Folding After Their Second Season
The two-year old Kens Cresting Arena on 47th Street in Trach City will sit vacant after only two SHL seasons of hosting the Trach City Americans.
Ken's Cresting Arena could never bring in a big crowd unless the Cross Empire River Rivals Scott City Grrrowl were in town.  This is huge news for the SHL as there will be two brand new expansion clubs to be named to the league in the upcoming summer months.
Grrrowl Ink Don Cherry To Three Year Deal As Head Coach
SCOTT CITY, TC --  A month after firing Guy Lafleur as head coach the Scott City Grrrowl have named their replacement.  Monday evening at the Great Eastern Forum inside the Tommy Vercetti Ballroom it was announced that Don Cherry has signed a three year deal worth an estimated $24.7 million.  This will be the second team Cherry has coached in the SHL after being fired by the Adamville Falcons early last season.  Grrrowl GM and VP of Hockey Operations Scott Macfie stated at the press conference that "Don has always been a hockey idol in Scott City even when he was a member of the Falcons.  We are ecstatic about signing him and look forward to the draft"  Cherry commented at the press conference "I was disapointed when Adam Wilkinson let me go last year and can't wait to go into the A&W Omniplex this winter and run their show."  Cherry will be the third head coach in Grrrowl history following Ted Nolan and Guy Lafleur.  He will have a lot of expectations to live up to in Scott City with everybody expecting a Copenhagen Cup parade next April.

conference.  Both men are respected members of the hockey community in Saskatchewan and after the Gilmore Gold Jackets won the Copenhagen Cup in their Expansion year last season, teams should be prepared to face two very skilled expansion teams this season.  Both franchises have arenas coming to a completion in late August and will be ready to go for week one of the 2007-2008 season.  The two franchises were formally introduced to the SHL Monday at the annual Summer GM meeting held at an undisclosed location.  It is believed the league held discussions on player protected lists, scoring format changes, and who is to host the 2007 Draft and the 2007-2008 All-Star game; more information will be posted on this website as it comes forward.
Fort Macfie Gets Set To Host 2007 SHL Draft
FORT MACFIE, ED -- The Fort Macfie Gangbang organization is getting set to host the 2007 SHL Draft.  The always exciting, always surprising draft is set to take place Tuesday September 18th at the OK Corral Centre in downtown Fort Macfie.  As previous years have shown the most exciting part of the draft is about a half hour before it actually begins when the draft order is announced.  The SHL is an unorthodox league when it comes to their draft order.  Instead of doing the draft order in reverse of the preceding years regular season standings or basing it on a lottery with the chances based on the previous years standings they go with a completely randomized draft order.  Last season the Scott City Grrrowl ended up with the first overall pick in the draft from the randomized order and ended up selecting Joe Thornton first overall.  It is more than likely this season that whoever ends up with the first overall pick will pick 20 year old sensation Sidney Crosby.  Most teams are content with admitting they would pick Crosby first overall if they get the selection.  Others are being more secretive about...
