| Reasons Ancient Egyptian Religion is Better than Ancient Greek & Roman 1) In Egyptian Religion the gods are part of a great created system of order in the midst of the primeval chaos - their prime reason to exist is to preserve order, truth, justice, and the right and eternally correct way of being (i.e. Maat). In Greek Religion the gods are there to party and not much of anything else. 2) Re never leaves his job as solar deity to go chasing pretty girls (or pretty boys for that matter - Zeus is an equal opportunity horndog) 3) neither does Osiris 4) Isis is the greatest magic worker of the gods - she doesn't stand around powerlessly while Osiris messes around with anything in a dress and then go smite the poor defenseless rape victim (ala Hera). She'd know whom to smite. This is probably why there is not a single myth known about Osiris having a little something something on the side - He knows better. 5) In Greek Religion the gods mostly couldn't care less about people apart from using them as living pawns in a particularly sadistic chess game, which becomes the 'Can You Top This' contest of punishment. In Egyptian Religion, as a rule the gods like humanity and try to help them. If a god is out to get you, you did something (you, not your mother, your father, your grandfather, your great uncle twice removed, someone who had the same last name as your great-great grandfather's first roommate - you). 6) If a deity is out to get you, a good 'I'm sorry', and a few good worships seem to take care of the problem and put the deity back in a good mood, take away your blindness, or what have you. Just try that with Greek deities. 7) As a rule free will is emphasized and fate is avoidable, and can be altered with proper care and ritual practices. (I think Oedipus would have liked this system better). 8) Greek Mythology - 'Great Soap Opera in the Sky' rapidly devolving into 'Jerry Springer does Olympus' Egyptian Religion - nice and polite 9) In Egyptian Religion all anti-social and deviant behavior is located in the person of the Chaos god Seth, no other deity behaves in socially inappropriate ways - In Greek Religion no deity behaves in socially appropriate ways Roman satirical authors often made fun of Egyptian religion because of its 'mixed - form' portrayals of deities (i.e. because deities weren't always made to look human) In my opinion: All in all Classical religion made its deities all too human, showing the worst aspects of hmanity. If you took the lowest denominator of humanity, removed all shreds of moral integrety and responisibility and then gave them cosmic powers, the Classical deities are what you would wind up with. ISIS ISIS RA RA RA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is Osiris shown Green? come on... If you'd been stuffed in a trunk and floated on the river you'd be a bit green too! |
