Robert was a graduate of Central High School and Evansville College. He earned his master's degree at Indiana State University. He enjoyed teaching instrumental music, including 28 years with the Evansville Vanderburgh School  Corporation. Robert was a member of the West Side Sportsman's Club, Evansville Lapidary Society, Indiana Archaeological Society, EHAM Amateur Radio Club (WB9QAW), Evansville Military Collector's Club, St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Evansville Astronomy Club, Gaitway Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, and Free Masons of McLeansboro, Illinois. In addition, he was a class instructor for Posey County  Archaeological Digs. Robert also enjoyed gardening, fly fishing, nature walks, and photography. He was a collector of old military radio equipment. Robert enjoyed attending  championship dog shows.
