NRHS 2001 ANNUAL CONVENTION
The 1st rail trip of the convention was a Union Pacific excursion to Gorham, Illinois behind the Challenger #3985.  Here was a photo Runby at Chester, Ill.  Yes, that is the Mississippi River in the background.

Not everyone has the same impression of the perfect camera angle, hence all my fellow passengers in the shot.  Compare this picture with the one at the bottom taken at the same location.
Right - Another shot at Chester, Ill.  The 'photo line' is just to the left of the frame.  I didn't like the angle as much as the other one, but at least no one was in the way.
The above shot was taken during the layover at Gorham, Ill.  The train has been turned on a wye and the engine is being serviced for the trip back to St. Louis.

Upper right - Passing another train along the way.
Another runby location along the way home.

It was a nasty, mid-western type day.  90 degrees with 90% humidity.  Rains during the night would cool everything down for the remainder of the week.

I spent most of the trip riding in the open air baggage car.  Suffering through the sticky atmosphere was a small price to pay for mainline steam action.
