Akhenaten was a controversial leader of Egypt in the 13th Century b.c. He tried to convert Egypt to monothiesm- the worship of only one god. Akhenaten's one powerful god was Aten. Akhenaten had actually changed his name from Amenhotep IV, to Akhenaten, which means "he who serves Aten." His wife was the famous Queen Nefertiti, who supported Akhenaten. Unfortunately for Akhenaten, after his death, the country changed back to the customary worship of polytheism (many gods). |
