He has always loved animals since he was a child. At age 6, Steve's dad (Bob Irwin) bought him for his birthday, a Scrub Python (named Fred). When Steve turned 8 his family moved to Queensland and opened up a repitile zoo. They collected many diffrent repitiles from lizzards, snakes, crocodiles, and much more as the years gone by. Steve Irwin was a born natural crocodile catcher he was very proud to go with his dad looking for crocodiles Steve caught his first croc. at the age of 9. In the 1980's Steve volunteered at the Queensland Governsments rogue crocodile relocation program. He spent years in Northerns Queensland catching crocodiles that were causing problems to the locals. Knowing a crocodile has the ablitity to chop Steve Irwin down in one bite Steve uses the techenique in captureing the crocodiles with his bare hands. He says it causes the crocodile less stress than objects that can hurt the animal itself. Steve Irwin still taday stands for the record of successful captures of crocodiles. In 1991 Bob and Lyn Irwin retired and gave Steve the zoo. Also in 1991, Steve (with a little help from Jhon Stainton) did his first documentry called "The Crocodile Hunter". In 1992, his show was seen all over the world and that is when he became well known. He made 50 episodes of "The Crocodile Hunter" and 52 episodes of "The Croc. Files". 1992 Steve married the most outstanding Lady Terri Raines, from Eugene, Organ. Together as a team they have runned the zoo and made the shows a high success over 500 million people are watching them save animals all over the world. Not only do they educate the public on understanding diffrent types of animals but they also teach the public on the team work of working together in a marriage. |
