| Rainy Days - A Collection of Tears and Triumphs "Thank you to all of those victims and survivors who contributed their poetry and short stories to the collaboration of this book. Knowledge is power, and hopefully by reading this collection of writing, we have helped to empower women and children from all around the world... to stand up and fight for their right to live." Copywritten 2004 ... In what seemed like a very short time, my father appeared. His face instantly grew dark with anger when his eyes settled on the pastor of our church sitting at the kitchen table. Then he looked at me with the same expression. I bowed my head... ... My mother began to speak quickly, explaining why she had called us together. With cold, empty eyes, my father continued to stare at her. He was getting visibly upset, pacing across the floor, his eyes darting from person to person... ... The pastor started to speak. I don't remember exactly what it was he said, but I do remember him addressing the situation of my early eviction from the family... "you need to tell your daughter that you love her... she needs to hear you say it... go on, tell her..." My father stared at me for what seemed like hours. His face was emotionless... his mouth was closed; his lips never parted... turning on his heels, he left the house in silence... I don't remember driving back to my apartment in the city. I don't remember backing down the driveway, or passing the only gas station in the center of the quaint town. I don't remember stopping at any of the three traffic lights strategically positioned on the outskirts... All I remember thinking was, Oh my God, he doesn't love me... he didn't say it... he doesn't love me... |
