117 Grading Policies
Up

Portfolio: 30% of quarter grade (see individual portfolio rubric)

Test/Quizzes: 30% of quarter grade

   * a Quick Quiz (5 questions) counts once (1X) in grade book

   * an Announced Quiz (for which you must "prepare") counts twice (2X) in grade book

   * a Unit Exam counts four times (4X) in grade book

   * that overall average counts for 30% of quarter grade

Aardvark (1 per quarter): 20% of quarter grade

Graded Essays(2 per quarter):10% of quarter grade **

Class Participation: 10% of quarter grade ***

**How are "graded essays" separate from the portfolio grade?  Understand that it is essential that you gain a feeling of whether or not you obtain the standard in writing.  Therefore, I will announce twice during the quarter that a specific writing assignment will be graded.  These essays are above and beyond the writing required for the portfolio.

***Class participation is a bundle that includes things like how well you work in groups (do you "hold weight" so to speak), your general spirit and sense of purpose with which you work, participation in class discussions, academic integrity, etc.  While it isn't a major portion of your grade, it could make the difference between an A- and a B+.

And finally...

  1. Sometimes things come up and changes must be made on the fly.  If this occurs, I will explain as clearly as I can what modifications have been made to the grading policy.

  2. If you are unsure of where you stand at any point during the year, you need to communicate with me your concerns and I'll answer your questions.

  3. The protocol for voicing concerns is as follows:

    a.  You and I need to meet and discuss the issue.

    b.  Secondly, if confusion still exists, I am willing to meet with your parents (with you in attendance) to discuss the issue.
