I was on a packed boiling hot bus for seven hours so Im claiming temporary insanity. ~~~~~~~~~ Monkey Business the circus was actually called Monkey Business. He cringed inwardly, remembering how he had been duped into coming. He had secretly taken the day off and planned to spend it spelunking with Mac. It had been a fantasy of his to get hot and heavy amongst the beauty of the stalagmites and stalactites. But then Harriet invited him to little AJs fifth birthday party, he had been so shocked at being invited that he had just accepted without asking when or where. It was later that night that Mac had delighted in telling him they were going to the circus. And although he knew the adventurer in his marine would pick the caves, at the same time he knew the heart in his Sarah would win out, she would never miss little AJs birthday party and he wasnt going to ask her too. So he changed his plans, instead of making love all day long they were going to the circus to pretend they didnt really know each other that well. This all started a month ago when he got back from Surinam. She was waiting in the airport for him having realised her feelings for him. He couldnt believe his luck; beautiful intelligent marines like Sarah Mackenzie dont just go around telling any guy they were in love with them. Especially arrogant, sarcastic, cynical, distant old spies like himself. But thats what she said and by god he wasnt going to let this chance pass him by. She dragged him to her car and they drove to his house for the first of many passion filled nights. By the next week they were living with each other; but there hadnt been a good time to tell anyone at JAG, with the admirals split with Meredith and Harms very public and very amusing split with Renee. The words shrivelled and useless would never be the same again. What are you grinning about Harm rudely interrupted his thoughts and he realised he had an evil grin on his face from the memory. Just happy Harm, its not everyday you get to go to the circus. He quickly lied and changed the subject. As much as Harm was being an ass lately he didnt deserve that incident bringing up. Its amazing they have everything from tigers jumping through fire hoops tois that a monkeys playing on childs swing set. I didnt see that inside He faked amazement looking in the pamphlet a clown had given him on the way in. Harm just had a confused look on his face. Cheer up Harm its a birthday party remember. He said pointing to little AJ whos hand he was holding. He had only met him this morning but he had taken a liking to Clay and hadnt left his side, Harm actually seemed jealous looking at them. Oh yeah He kneeled down to talk to AJ. Hey buddy, do you want me to win you a baseball glove He pointed to a nearby stall, little AJ looked up excited asking Clay for permission. You can go if you want, just dont leave Harms side OK He nodded and grabbed hold of Harms hand. He gave Mac a strange look and went to the stall; and for a commander in the military Harm made a pathetic attempt at shooting the Campbells tomato soup tins. Whats his problem? Clay asked Mac when they were alone. I We I She stammered and took a deep breath. We, as in me and Harm, made this deal. If we were still single by little AJs fifth birthday we were going to have a child together. She looked away scared at how he would react And well he hit on me at work today, I said nobut I couldnt tell him why. Not like that in the office, it would have crushed him. He said we were going to talk about it later Hes been in a crabby mood ever since Clay started laughing. Mac youve created a monster He joked. So what do you want to do? We could make a run for it Youre not getting away that easy mister. She swatted his arm. Lets just play it easy for now well see how the night plays out Oh okay, He walking over to where the rest were gathered in front of a food/sweet stall. Harriet are you sure you should eating that being pregnant and all? He joked looking at the food in the bowl. It looked like something that would be washed out of one of them big underpass drain pipes. Actually its really tasty Mr Webb, would you like to try some She held her spoon out and his face scrunched up at the thought. No thank you Harriet and please call me Clay. It is your sons birthday party after all Poor Harriet had been calling everyone Sir and Ma am all night. Sorry Clay. She smiled sweetly You seem to be getting on with AJ really well, I have never seen him take to anyone so quickly. He usually runs away from strangers Perhaps it was the walkie talkies I gave him He randomly guessed. It wasnt really unusual, he had no idea why but his nieces and nephew always stuck around him too, even there pet dog wouldnt leave him alone. Excuse me He ran to catch Mac at the front of the queue. Ill pay if you let me order with you He negotiated taking his wallet and ordering. Why have you got a greyhound bus ticket in there? She asked amused he never took the bus anywhere. It reminds me of how lonely life can be He vaguely answered as they made there way back to the others. What do you mean He blushed and a smiled sheepishly at her. Its the bus I was going to get back home when you picked me up at the airport. He admitted and found himself in a bone crushing hug. I love you Clayton Webb She whispered kissing him. I love you too They broke apart and looked toward the others who hadnt noticed. Lets do a runner Mac suggested grabbing his hand and running around the side of the tent. Minutes later they had run the length of the circus There She pointed to a train in the distance. They climbed the fence and ran to the train, finding no security climbed in a box car. They looked at each other and started laughing Well its not the most romantic place, but itll do She said running here hand up his shirt as he pulled her in for a kiss. Uuu They quickly broke apart at the strange noise coming from the corner of the cart. What was that? They asked each other at the same time. Uuu It came again and the walked toward the noise, looking more closely at things on the way. Riding crops? Mac showed them to him confused. A Banana Clay picked it up Uuu Uuu His face froze as he realised what was going on. But before he could tell her the train started to move. Shit The circus train She confirmed his suspicion pointing to the hoops they had seen the tigers jump through earlier. Uuu Uuu But the tents are still up He asked confused. She shrugged I guess they move the animals first She jumped when she moved the blanket in the corner to find a little AJ size bright orange orang-utan sitting under it. Shouldnt that thing be caged? Clay moved towards Mac scared for her safety I guess its trained, it is in the circus Uuu It moved toward them but when Mac raised her hands it stopped dead in its tracks and ran back to hide under the cover. Uuu It peeped from under the blanket. Sarah He pointed to the riding crop in her hand and she put it down. Clay held out the banana. uUuu He came out from under the blanket and took the banana off Clay Uu uuU It hugged his legs. It looks like you have got yourself another friend Clay Mac laughed patting him on the back and went to find a place to sit. We may as well get comfy it seems we are going to be here for quite a while She said patting the space near her. Clay walked toward her slowly followed by the monkey and when he sat down he found it taking place on his lap. Mac giggled at the unusual sight and Clay sighed It a Webb curse, animals and kids love to be around the men he informed her. Oh dont you like kids Mac sounded disappointed; this is one conversation she had been meaning to start but was too afraid to. No its not that, it was a joke to break the gloom He saw where she was coming from and wanted to tell her straight I have wanted kids for the longest time; I just hadnt found the right woman Hadnt? She smiled he nodded. Not havent? He shook his head. Hadnt, as in the past tense He cleared it up for her. She hugged him and the orang-utan joined in, which set them off laughing. Uu UU uooU The orang-utan tried to laugh too while opening its banana and offering Clay some. No He said shaking his head and gently pushing his arm down, but he was insistent and raised his banana again. Oh Clay, eat some, banana Mac choked out through laughter, the look on Clays face was priceless. He looked around the cart seeing all the different foreign language signs and pamphlets and decided to try different languages. Perhaps he The banana was shoved into his face and Macs laughing got louder. He gave her the evil eye and turned back to the monkey who was now looking rather sad. HeT He tried Russian. But it still held up the banana. Nr He tried Dutch. But still he held up the banana. Non French, nein German, Iie Japanese, No And Portuguese, he was running out of languages and the monkey still held its banana in his face. And Macs was still laughing hysterically. Mac, its not His sentence was cut off by the banana being shoved into his mouth. He couldnt help but smile as Mac laughing got louder quietly echoed by the orang-utan. UuuuU Uoo UU Giving up he bit off a piece then pulled her in for a banana filled kiss. Oh well it could be worse, he could be in Canada. ~~~The End~~~ |
