Summary: Webbs not a happy chap at all Disclaimer: They are not mine, `tis I whom is theirs. ~~~ Outside Clayton Webbs residence. Harm and Mac sat in the car waiting for Webb to come home. He had told them he would help but that was over a month ago and he still hadn't been in touch. They, as in Harm, had decided to pay him a little home visit. "...He's lied to us before." Mac couldn't understand why Harm was acting like this. Clay had proved himself to be a good friend many a time, in fact she couldn't think of a time when he had let them down without a good reason. "The only reason he has done that was for national security Harm, and this has nothing to do with that. He said he would help and I can't see any possible reason why he would lie about it." Mac defended him but Harm just looked at her like she was crazy. This was Clayton Webb they were talking about. "That was over a month ago, and he hasn't called yet. I think he still blames me for getting him sent to Suriname." 'Is he going to mention Suriname every time we see Clay' Mac thought. "He could have been on a mission and unable to phone, and he told you already it was HIS decision to leak the angel shark video" She ground out. She was getting angrier by the second. This argument was about to hit the twenty minute mark, and one of them, that one being Harm, was going to end up with some pretty nasty injuries if Clay didn't hurry up and get his butt home. And just at that Clay car pulled up and he climbed out, paint tins in hand. Mac sighed 'once again Webb had saved Harm six and Harm was still none the wiser'. Mac hid her smile at that thought. Clay look lost in thought as he walked past complete oblivious to their presence. "Some spy" Harm muttered opening his door and climbing out before she could defend him again. 'Why is she defending Webb all of a sudden, does she blame me for Suriname too'. Harm couldn't help but still feel guilty; he knew what he was doing confronting Webb in front of the memorial wall like that. He had used his friend, because his emotions had got the better of him. 'You were meant to have buried them ghosts along time ago boy'. Clays heartbeat speeded up and his body tensed as he heard the car door shut. "Hey Webb" Relaxing when he recognised the voice he looked over his shoulder at his friends, and his heart sunk. This was it, this was the last time he would see them. "Rabb what do you want?" He sounded so annoyed and he almost felt like the same old Clay again as the sentence left his mouth. "A favour Clay" 'he hates me, he knows I knew what I was doing' "I don't owe you any Rabb" Clay ground out. He should have been paying more attention, why hadn't he seen the car. 'He still blames me' Harm new it Clay blamed him, and he had the right. 'But he has used us before, lots of times and he never feels guilty' anger was setting in. "You said it wasn't my fault you got sent to Suriname Clay, so don't get all mad at me about it now. Last month you said you would help so please a favour, as a friend" Harm was right just a month ago he was more than willing to help, but so much had changed since then. He couldn't help them, not anymore, it was too dangerous. He had to get rid of them, make them hate him so they wouldn't come back 'well that's not going to be hard to do is it.They hate me anyway just don't do them anymore favours and they wont stick around' "Rabb I have more important things to do" he said lifting his paint pot to prove his point. "DECORATING YOUR HOUSE" Harm blurted out in disbelief. Clay opened the door and stepped inside and turned to face them. The door in hand ready to shut if...when Harm swung for him. "Yes" his headache was back and he new things would get worse before they got better. "Your house is more important than your friends" Harm couldn't believe what Webb was saying. And he was getting into the spy's face. Mac grabbed his arm and pulled him back to calm him down. The pain had never left Clays eyes and he turned pale when Harm moved to threaten him. 'Clay never backs off he always stands his ground, even with the admiral.' "What in gods name makes you think were friends?" Clay shouted. He had recovered quickly but he was angry at how scared he had been. Harm was shocked into silence. Even though he'd never admit it, they had been through a lot together and he really did consider him as a friend. "We work together from time to time." 'Sorry Harm this is a low blow but its for your own good' "I use you and you use me" The words stung and a little bit off them all died as they were spoken. 'He knows, he knows I used him' Harm was frozen Webb hated him. "Webb you don't consider us your friends" Mac asked something was wrong this wasn't the Clayton Webb she new and loved. 'Loved?' 'your more than a friend' "Okay, tell me when my birthday is and I'll do you a favour" they couldn't answer, just stood there staring at him. "Well I think that answers your question Colonel" He looked at Harm and saw the sadness and distrust in his eyes and his gut twisted. He was glad of his training he had managed to keep his face pain free and harm hadn't noticed a thing. He had done it they were safe, they were going to leave. 'This was the last time I will ever see them' he thought. 'I'll never see Mac again'. He had avoided looking at her the hole time, but he had to look at her just one more time. Then he looked at her concerned gaze, her eyes boar into his soul and he new. She had seen his pain. He wasn't expecting her to be looking she was meant to be mad at him and not paying attention. He had let his guard down for one second and she had seen him. He looked away quickly the images of the last two weeks coming back to him, but this time it was Mac. 'I can't let it happen to her too.' His emotions were starting to get the better of him, he had to get rid of them and quickly. "If that's all..." He said while shutting the door. Mac's hand flew too the door stopping him. She couldn't leave him, not like this. "Clay are you OK" 'No I'll never be OK again' He couldn't lie he knew the pain in his voice would give it away. He slammed the door in their faces and leaned against it for support. He couldn't watch them die too. He felt the tears stringing his eyes and reminded himself to breathe. "Clay" Mac was knocking on the door. Clays didn't hear his eyes were fixed on the pool of dry blood on the floor, following the trail with his eyes. When it led to the bloody handprint on the wall his tears spilled out. He slid down the door crying, praying for the memories to go away. "Its obvious he doesn't care lets just go" Clay stopped when he heard Harm speak 'why are they still here, please god make them leave' "No Harm there is something wrong. Very wrong and I'm not leaving until I know he's OK" He stared at her wondering what she was talking about. She couldn't believe he hadn't noticed. She started knocking again. "Mac, please just go" Clay voice cracked in desperation. They couldn't stay; he would get them killed. Harm was shocked he hadn't seen the pain in Clays eyes but it sure was evident in his voice now. "CLAY WHATS WRONG?" Harm shouted as he started banging on the door "OPEN UP" Clay just sat there pressed tight against the door frozen in fear. The banging was agitating his healing ribs, but the pain distracted him from the memories so he stayed put. 'There not going to leave, you had to look at her one last time' "Harm just leave" Clay shouted. He was getting angry, why wouldn't they leave. Damn it he didn't need this. "Were not leaving until we know your OK" He had half a mind to tell them what was wrong. His life was a wreck his bestfriend was dead and it was all his fault. ~~~~~ TBC ~~~~~ |
