In today’s technologically advancing world, a new platform of
companionship has arisen. With an increasing number of people surfing
the Internet, people are bound to run into someone who they get along with,
as well as people they despise. Sometimes people who have grown to
know and like, one another over the ‘net actually get to meet in person,
but many times this is not the case. The friendship seems to be stuck
on a cyber level, consisting of binary data being sent across a delicate
web of unimaginable proportions. And so our story is set, two friends,
connected only by their modems and their aspirations of someday being more
than “cyber friends.”
FlaymBrayn and Venus met a few years back. Brayn as he
is called by people who know him, found himself instantly intrigued by
Venus. Venus was going by 1“Decency_Flytrap”
that day, and she was ranting about the moral and
intellectual levels of the people in the chat room when Brayn entered.
He agreed with what she was saying, but she was directing the rant towards
some of his friends, so he stayed out of it. Brayn did however manage
to start a private conversation between Venus and him. A few days
later, he saw her in chat again, this time she was going by 2“Venus_Flytrap.”
From then on, they would talk occasionally.
A few weeks after their initial meeting, Brayn broke his finger.
He still came to chat, and even managed to work around the finger brace.
At one point, Brayn found out that Venus had had a broken finger a while
back. She had tripped over her cat and broke her finger when landing.
This one small thing that they had in common, seemed to bring them together.
They talked quite frequently and started to get to know each other.
Brayn and Venus now talked all the time. Brayn’s friends
and Venus still didn’t get along very well. They were always at each
other’s throats, and Brayn was often caught in the middle. Nevertheless,
eventually they stopped fighting, and Brayn befriended some of Venus’s
friends. Brayn got Venus’s e-mail address and sent her a short e-mail.
The e-mail consisted of “Hi. Bye.” Brayn did not save the e-mail
address at that point because he expected a reply. That reply never
arrived.
Some time passed and their friendship grew a lot closer.
Brayn started feeling more affectionate towards Venus but he did not know
if she felt the same way.
Then something happened in Brayn’s life. For the first
time in his life, a girl asked him out. He said yes without thinking
about it too much. Now he started spending more and more time with
his girlfriend and less time online. He would still get online some,
but not often. Brayn ran into Venus in the chat one day. She
asked him where he had been and he replied, 3“I’ve
been with my girlfriend. I have a life now (no offence meant).”
Venus took offence. At that time, Brayn was too self-centered
to see that what he said was very offensive. He couldn’t understand
what Venus was getting so mad about. Needless to say, their friendship
was a bit rough at the time. Complicating this was the fact that
Brayn was hardly online anymore.
About a month after being asked out, Brayn broke up with her.
Summer had just started and Brayn was being forced to stay at a relative’s
house in another state. This weakened Brayn and Venus’s friendship
even more. When Brayn returned home, it was almost like they were
complete strangers. Venus had started internet-dating Jay.
Brayn tried to rebuild the friendship, but he kept slipping up. 4One
time he accidentally banned her from her own chat room. But gradually
he regained her trust and then some.
Brayn spent as much time with Venus as he could. He was there
for her when she needed to talk about Jay, or anything else that was bugging
her. He got her e-mail address again and this time he sent e-mails
with more substance. He also got her AOL Instant Messenger screen
name so they could talk whenever they were both online. Many times,
they would spend the majority of the night talking, maybe not getting to
sleep until 5 or 6 in the morning. It was the summer still so that
didn’t really mean a lot. Brayn learned that when they first got
to know each other, Venus had liked him as more than a friend.
School started and neither one changed their sleep habits. They
spent every moment possible together. 5Brayn
admitted to Venus that he loved her. He was overjoyed to learn that
she felt the same. Venus even agreed to send Brayn a letter.
Her mother canceled that. But then disaster struck again.
Brayn 6found himself
in another relationship outside of the Internet again. It had a worse
effect than the 7pervious
relationship. This tore Brayn and Venus apart. Eventually that
relationship ended, and Brayn came to find out that Venus was now dating
another guy. After about two weeks, her relationship dissolved.
Brayn finally got up the nerve to ask Venus out. She said yes.
That night Brayn told AAsh about his good fortune. A day or so later,
Steven suggested that Venus go out with Brayn, only to find out he was
a little late.
They are still happily together. The only problems they have
anymore generally revolve around their parents. 8CTD’s
existence also provides some difficulty. Any other problems
can be traced back to Brayn. 9 They
are both in love. The limitations of being a “cyber couple”
sometimes dishearten them, but they manage to get around them more of the
time. And they have even gone as far as to set up a date, for when
she is 23.
Wrong
Lovely
Don't particularly like it.
Confused
1-2. I never put a _ in my name, and if I knew better I would say that
I was probably decentflytrap. After that, venusflytrap.
3. You actually said "I have a life now. (no offence)"
lol if you said somethin about a girlfriend I woulda struck you.
and saying "no offence" usually means that there is offence anticipated.
you dug your own grave.
4. I don't even remember this. And if it really happened, I really don't
think I cared. I might have acted irritated...but really....nothing to
do with "trust".
5. That's just corny. It makes me look like the loser on the net who
waited especially for you to come back from your "life".
6. Found yourself?? How do you find yourself in a relationship? A relationship
requires concrete actions to take place, and you should give yourself alot
more credit because this was a BIG part in the story. It sounds like you
just woke up one day and were in this dead serious lets make a big mistake
relationship.
7. Pervious- giving passage to, penetrable.
8. If CTD is Chuck then that's wrong. You just went out on a limb on
that statement.
9. Ah I dunno...kinda just rolls the story into a big, corny ball. Which
I'm sure is no problem with you.
