Ever see the movie "The Money Pit," with Shelley Long and Tom Hanks? By now, Wade thinks we are living it, except that instead of paying someone to do the work, HE has to work full time at his job, then come in and work full time on the farmhouse. Me? Well, sometimes I show up with lunch. Nobody ever said life was fair. It sometimes is especially unfair for darling, handy, handsome hubbies.
One of my favorite childhood stories was "The Tortoise and the Hare," because I liked the moral, "Slow and steady wins the race," which is a favorable idea to those of us whose legs are length-challenged. Progress on the farmhouse is much slower than Wade would like. He and his dad are constantly working on it, and to them the progress isn't as obvious as it is to the rest of us. I think he's getting tired of my reminders that "slow and steady wins the race." At this point, he just wants to finish the race, and doesn't care whether it's a win, loss, or draw!
