
Green Hill
The Green Hill zone is where all of Sonic's animal friends live in this game. Rolling hills and tranquil rivers cover the beautiful landscape. Unfortunately Dr Robotnik has placed many traps to capture the spikey hedgehog. These include spikes, springs, endless chasms and even badniks!
Badniks: Buzz Bomber, Motobug, Newtron, Chopper, Crabmeat.
This is an easy zone to complete. The first 2 acts are relatively short with the 3rd act even shorter. The boss is easily beaten, all you have to do is dodge his swinging ball by either jumping over the egg-o-matic when you hit Robotnik or hust hiding in the far sides of the screen.
Marble
Guide Sonic through this ancient maze of buildings from a bygone age. A volcano has erupted recently and flooded the land with moten lava. Spikes on chains, lava balls and collapsing blocks are some of many of the traps in this zone.
Badniks: Buzz Bomber, Caterkiller.
This zone is slightly harder than Green Hill as it has lava pits covering large areas of the acts. Apart from one part where you have to ride a block over the lava whilst jumping and ducking over obstacles, there shouldn't be any problems. The boss only requires a bit of jumping over fireballs and its defeated with 8 bonks on the head.
Spring Yard
This is a giant pinball machine filled to the brim with bumbers and springs! How can Sonic get through this maze without suffering a massive headache!
Badniks:
Buzz Bomber, Roller, Newtron, Crabmeat.
Bumpers pose the biggest threat here. They can take an unskilled player a while to negotiate. Rollers can appear to come out of nowhere and make you lose your rings so watch out. Large numbers of Buzz Bombers can fly on the screen simultaneously so you can hit them all in one move! The boss comprises of Robotnik with a huge spike on his underside. This then tracks Sonic and then smashes the block Sonic was standing on when it stopped. This is the hardest boss so far as you only have until there are no blocks left to smash to beat him. You can only hit him when he comes down to smash a block so time carefully.
Labyrinth
An underwater maze! What is this? Sonic needs air! Help him with the air bubbles spread liberally around the collumns and other places. Hidden badniks rule here like the digging Burrowbot! Sonic is slowed down in the water so be careful not to get hit!
Badniks:
Jaws, Burrowbot, Orbinaught.
In my opinion this is the hardest level on the game. You spend a large time of this zone underwater, so get air whenever it is available otherwise you WILL die. Sonic is drastically slowed down underwater so be careful not to get disoriented and get hit by one of the Jaws. The boss is tricky as you have to chase him up the level before you can actually fight him. But 8 hits kill him.
Star Light
This is a construction site in the middle of a bustling metropolis. Watch out for catapults, walking bombs and fans!
Badniks:
Orbinaught.
This is a lot easier than the last and next zone but still should not be underestimated. There are a lot of bottomless chasms in this zone trying to stop your progress. Also fans can stop progress as they simply blow you back where you came from or stop you backtracking. There are a few catapults which you can use to cross the chasms and get higher up. Just jump on the opposite end to the ball to operate them. The boss is easy on this level. There are a few empty catapults which Robotnik drops exploding balls on. Now you can either use these falling balls to catapult you high enough to hit Robotnik, or you can catapult the balls up to hit Robotnik. Again 8 hits to destroy.
Scrap Brain
This zone marks the final checkpoint before you reach Robotnik's HQ! The entire zone on an underwater lake, but there isn't any sign of that from the metallic surface. Watch out for flamethrowers, circular saws and conveyer belts.
Badniks:
Caterkiller, Ball Hog, Newtron, (plus some labyrinth Badniks in Act 3).
This zone is rather complicated. Conveyer belts try to carry you into flames and saws, etc. Dr Robotnik appears at the end of the second act and sends you down to an underwater stage for act 3. There is no boss here so just carry on.
Final
This is it! The final showdown with Dr Robotnik! There are no rings on this level, so dodge the squishing presses and laser balls as you go for Robotnik.
As I have already said, there are no rings here so you have to be extra careful not to get hit as one blast will kill. Run straight over to the right hand side of the level and watch Robotnik appear. When the laser balls are fired, they home into you, slowly. Jump through the gaps and then head back to the right. Some the presses will now smash upwards. If Dr Robotnik is in one of them hit him. 8 hits does it.
Special
This is where the Chaos Emeralds are kept. An alternate dimension that spins on an invisible axis. Watch out for the goals as they take you back to the main game before you have a chance to get the emerald!
