Super Sonic
Description: When Sonic collects
all seven Chaos Emeralds, he is able to transform into Super Sonic. In this
form, Sonic is invulnerable to all attacks, and all of his natural abilities
(for example running and jumping) are greatly increased. Though invincible,
Sonic is only able to sustain this form while he has rings. Generally starting
with fifty, the number counts down at a rate of one per second. Collecting
more rings will increase the number, but when all the rings are gone, Sonic
reverts into his normal blue self.
Super Sonic used to appear as a bonus for players once all seven Chaos Emeralds
had been collected, and was playable as long as at least fifty rings had been
collected. However, since Sonic Adventure, Super Sonic has been saved to be
only playable until the last boss.

Useless info: Super Sonic started as a joke referring to the popular Japanese anime show, Dragonball Z, in a similar way to the Death Egg being a joke referring to Star Wars. However, the idea has stuck and Super Sonic has become an important character in many Sonic games since.
