HEAVYMETAL.DE INTERVIEW * Yes, I survived PopKomm. Did you? If not, I feel sorry for you (ha ha ha). It was very busy again in Cologne, I "ran like hell" from station to station, and then I stopped at "Hammer Müzik" - and met this guys from Turkey there - cool dudes. I never heared of Hammer Müzik before, but what I heared were some heavy grooves from the cd player. It was HC at it's finest - let me present the band "Ascraeus". I took the chance to talk to the band's drummer Özgü "babe" (ha ha ha) Koyluc. What else can I say? I guess nothing - you people out there should listen to their latest release "Disgust". S: Sorry I cannot pronounce you name, but what is your bandname about? Ö: It has two meanings. The first one is the biggest mountain in the universe - it it placed on mars. The second meaning is in the mythology - there is a clan called "Ascra" and the people that are living in this clan are called "Ascraeus". S: Since when have you been together with the band? Ö: The band was formed in 1991, but it got more serious in 1993. 1994 they made the first album "Dare To Live" from Hades Records. After that album the vocalist left the band. At the secon album, which was released in 1997 there were 4 people left. Then the drummer left and I replaced him. Now this is our album no. 3 "Disgust". It's released at Hammer Müzik. We work very hard and try to do something different. S: How important is album no. 3 for a band? What do ya think? Ö: That's right. The first two albums by the way didn't have enough promotion, but now we get lot's of support from Hammer Müzik. They spent lots of money into recordings, promotion ya know? They like this album and they trust it. They also try to promote us in the US and in Europe. S: Is it hard to make it in other countries and of course in your own? Ö: The metal szene is growing in Turkey. Well we have to do more interviews and work hard that the people get a listen to our cd. The biggest thing is the promotion - no promotion - no nothing. The business is growing bigger and bigger every day. But if you make good music and have a good relation to your company - there's nothing that can stop you. S: So you have a strong metal base in Turkey?! Ö: Oh yes. They are nuts. S: So tell me please what's "Disgust" about? Ö: We write about the human mind. Everybody thinks about everything. They have many ideas, but they don't do anything. There's no action, and they can't do anything for people's help. This album is based on LIFE - we look into the mirror of disgusting subjects of life. S: Did you already support a "well known" band? Ö: Yeah. In May Overkill came to tour the "Necroshine" album. Hammer Müzik is planning another festival with 3 Roadrunner bands (Sepultura, Fear Factory and Machine Head). We're gonna support them - it's gonna be a big thing. It's a consert for the earthquake victims in Turkey. S: You should do it all over Europe - not only there. Ö: I know. We are lucky, cause the organisation about touring in Turkey is very bad. They think there's no market for those bands in heavy music. But they will - there's a strong fanbase in Turkey. Hammer Müzik recognized that and they are workin' on it. Metallica for example pleyed here, and more than 50.000 people went there. But let's see what the future brings. S: Right. Ö: Well the mission for us is to play live. S: Yeah - hit the stages... Ö: Sure, ha ha ha. That's very important - without that there's bad promotion. People must see a band on stage, otherwise they would forget them, ya know? I know, one day it will happen... S: What's coming up in the near future? Ö: We think about the next album. Write that..... They are really working very hard and I think - everybody gets what he/she/it/they deserve(s).
