SHIP OF FOOLS

So many men upon this boat
and each of these has said,
"We are moving now upon a tide,
assisted by the wind"

And each of these has made a claim:
""We go now ever forward
Toward our destination
Toward a better land"

Indeed, milord
I heard at far the speaking of these fools
and upon the passing of a time
I heard at close a lamentation thus:

"Oh who has brought us here, to
this !?"

Somewhere else is seen
a peasant man
dragging at a goat
a rope around its neck:

Says he:
"Come now, let me slaughter thee"
