next day's entry

the Honeymoon cabana

Today we go fishing, after some french toast and fresh fruit, of course. Tacio and his assistant, Albert, are waiting at the dock for us. We take the boat North and Tacio nets some sardines for bait. Then we anchor about 200 yards from the reef to spin cast. Our guides set us up with everything - baiting the hooks and casting for us. It's not long before Noga catches her first fish, a red snapper. Albert lands the fish, baits her hook, and casts. The fish come into the boat at a pace of about one per two/three casts. By the, I'm in control of my tackle, but Noga is the one catching the fish. We move to two other spots, catching mostly red, and yellowtail, snapper. We got a couple small Queen Triggerfish (too small so we threw them back), and some Grunts, too. Then we retire the rods and head towards "Rocky Point", where we anchor at the shoreline, hunt shells, sit out the first rain we've seen since coming to Belize, go snorkling, and feed the little fish pieces of sardine. While we're fishing, Tacio and Albert started a fire and cooked up some of the day's catch. When we get back to shore, lunch is ready for us. Fresh grilled snapper fillets, in butter and mayonaise, with sliced onions, green peppers, and tomatoes. Combined with flour tortillas and a frosty Belikin, the lunch was wonderfully delicious. We had fresh pineapple for dessert, then cleaned up and headed to 'Mexico Rocks' to snorkle. This site offers several huge brain corals, but our snorkling got cut short by a rain squall. After the rain passes, we set up a trolling line and Noga trolls for a bit. We catch nothing and more rain is coming. so we head back to Captain Morgan's. At the dock, we invite some of the staff there, waiting for a ride home, to take some of our catch and choose some for ourselves. Noga picks out a couple fish for Blanca and Beatrize, and the guides clean, scale and fillet them for us. We drop off our dinner at the kitchen and head to the cabana to clean up, and rest. Of course, Morgan is there waiting for us. Tonight, we have fish and chips - fresh fish.
