This morning, we take a short horseback ride, after breakfast. Antonio, our guide, put Noga atop Victor while I got to ride on Snip. We clop over jeep trails through lowland tropical forest, with palms and pines, marsh and jungle. Victor wouldn't let Snip pass, so I brought up the rear, taking in the scenery. We saw a bunch of white heron, a few vultures, and a pheasant. It was a rather relaxing ride, and short - about an hour long. After the ride, Noga and I get pedicures. We soaked our feet in warm, soapy water before the ladies started. They began with the cuticles, then proceeded to use an emory board on our toenails. A trim, some filing, a bit of shaping, and we were ready to be rubbed with a honey/sugar mixture from the toes to the calves. After a wash-down, and a buff, my toenails were quite shiny and looked great. Noga chose blue polish for her toenails. After all that, the ladies rubbed oil into our feet. Like new our feet felt. After a lunch of seviche (lobster/seafood salsa with nachos) and a thick iced coffee for Noga, garden salad topped with roasted Gibnuf and a Fanta for me, finished with a slice of chocolate cake, we were resigned to head back to the States. Before leaving, however, I HAD to get a fifth of Viper Rum. The special feature of this rum is that the maker drowns a poisonous snake in the bottle. I've heard from Max that the rum tastes terrible, and the proof is very high. But, that bottle pretty much sums up Belize - different and unique with it's own way of doing things. So, we get to the airport on time, but the flight is over-booked and we leave 45 minutes late. That doesn't stop us from making our connecting flight in Houston, though. At 2:35am the next day, we arrive in Boston and are met by Millie, who was gracious enough to watch Noga's car while we were gone, and to pick us up at this hour. We newleyweds arrive back in Amherst at 5:30, tired, but - hey- we're MARRIED! |
