ABOUT CHRISTMAS
Christmas is on 25th December, every year.
Christmas is the most joyous of celebrations.
It has been a celebration for thousands of years to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Modern traditions include decorations, in traditional Christmas colours of red and green. Many people decorate their homes with coloured lights, Christmas trees, and wreaths.
People send Christmas cards to their families, friends, and associates to wish a happy Christmas.
On Christmas eve, children hang stockings, hoping for Santa claus to fill them with treats.
Santa Claus wears a red suit and hat and has a white beard. Santa claus brings gifts for children.
He visits children by his sleigh pulled by eight reindeer.
On Christmas morning, family members gather around the Christmas tree to open presents from under the tree. In the afternoon, families get together to eat a traditional Christmas dinner. A traditional Christmas dinner consists of turkey and vegetables. For dessert - Fruitcake, or a Christmas plum pudding, served with cream.
Christmas carols are sung.
CHRISTMAS LESSON
I use flashcards to introduce Christmas vocabulary. I have students make a craft, such as making and decorating a Christmas card. Students like to sing a Christmas song in English. We like to play games such as Santa Says or I went Christmas shopping. These games are fun to play for any age.
Santa Says
Similair to Simon Says
One student puts on a Santa hat, and will be Santa. Student then says commands, such as "Santa says touch your head". All students must touch their heads. When Santa only says "touch your head" without saying "Santa says" then students must stay still and not follow the command. If a student does follow the command without Santa says, then he or she is out.
Christmas Shopping
One student starts by saying, "I went Christmas shopping and I bought a _____" (any item). The next student then continues and adds their own item to the list.
This game can be good for reviewing Christmas vocabulary. Such as, "I went Christmas shopping and I bought a Christmas tree and a stocking."
