Tools of the Trade
| Activator: This is a hand held, spring-loaded, adjustment instrument. Often used in adjusting the hard to reach or tender areas of the body, for instance the neck or ankles. The doctor may choose to use this on someone who has injuries or has many tender areas. |
| Massager: This is a hand held device that helps to massage the areas the doctor has just adjusted. It relieves tension and tightened muscles also. |
| Manual Techniques: The doctor may choose to
use some manual techniques, or adjustments using his hands. The hands are
the most important instrument in any profession, many studies have been
done on the use of touch and the injured or ill patient and they heal
faster if touch therapy is used often.
In the Chiropractors office a manual technique may include pushing, pulling, twisting, turning or applying pressure. This is done in a gentle manner, it is usually not painful and the doctor can answer any questions before he uses any technique you are not familiar with. A good doctor will tell you what he or she is going to do and how they will do this adjustment, relaxation and trust are the keys to the treatment you receive. |
