More attractions in Beijing

Forbidden City is in the city centre. Passing the Tiananmen Square, you can see a vast area of the palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its construction started in 1406. The palace occupies seven hundred twenty four thousand square metres. It includes various buildings of offices of the emperors, temples, resting places and gardens of the Royal families of the 2 dynasties.

Beihai Garden is north to the Forbidden City. Beihai (north sea) is actually a lake.The Mongolian of the Yuan Dynasty did not often see a lake and named the lake as "North Sea". In the lake, there is an island Qiongdao. On the island, there is a white Tibetan tower built in the Yuan Dynasty.

Yihe Yuan was the summer palace of the Qing emperors. Its construction started in 1750 A.D.. It's 15km northwest to the city centre. It consists of Wanshoushan (Hill of ten-thousand-year old) and Kunmingwu (Lake of Kunming). It higlights the greenery and canels which is an imitation of Suzhou. the wooden buildings have been kept well until now.

Tiantan (the Temple of the Heaven) is southeast to the city centre. Its construction is started in 1420. It was a place for the emperor to pray for rain, good harvest and thanksgiving.

Dazhanlan is an old street in Beijing. Many old shops are still there. One of them is called Goubuli. It is a restaurant which is famous of a bun of Tianjin style.

Sanlitun is in the Embassy District and side-walk cafes (during daytime) and bars (during night) are found. It attracts many tourists to enjoy western night life in Beijing.

Haidian is the university district which is west to the city centre. Famous old universities of China, for example, Peking University and Tsinghua University are also in this district.
