History of PSE&G

Introduction
The Public Service Electric and Gas Company, commonly known as PSE&G is a regulated, publicly owned utility company in the state of New Jersey, U.S.A. The company is headquartered in Newark N.J and has three principal subsidiaries: Public Service Electric and Gas Company, PSEG Power, and PSEG Energy Holdings (PSEG Global, PSEG Resources and PSEG Energy Technologies).
PSE&G is a $25 billion diversified energy company, one of the largest combined electric and gas companies in U.S., and PSEG Power, is an independent power producer with more than 16,000 megawatts of generation in operation development. The company invests, also, in overseas independent power plants and distribution systems.

History Facts:
The Public Service Corporation was formed in 1903, by amalgamating more than 400 gas, electric and transportation companies in New Jersey. The first named Corporation's president was Thomas McCarter and he held the position until 1939. The major component of the company at that time was transportation; ferry, trolley and later on bus services. In 1928 Public Service Transportation merged with Public Service Railway Company to form Public Service Coordinated Transport. Involvement in transportation ended in 1980, when PSE&G sold its transportation system to the State of New Jersey. After that, Public Service consolidated its gas and electric interests into Public Service Electric and Gas. In 1943, Public Service became, once again, a stand-alone company. In 1948, the company was renamed as Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSEG). In 2000, PSE&G was split into PSE&G, a regulated gas and electric delivery company in N.J. and PSEG Power, an unregulated US power generation company. PSEG Service Corporation was formed to assemble many shared support services in one organization that supports the operating subsidiaries.
Exelon, Delmarva Power, FirstEnergy are top competitors for PSEG, however, in December, 2004, PSEG and Exelon decided to merge. The merger is anticipated to go into effects 12-15 months from the announcement.

Seeing PSEG and MIS cooperating together, my team decided to pick PSEG as the topic for our Web Poster Assignment.
As I was looking for information, mostly using Internet, I realized that practically everybody is connected somehow with Management Information System. Everybody needs it nowadays: companies, institutions, schools, even at the house, we use MIS in one way or another. It brings us into new technological, computerized reality that everybody has to face with.
