| Byrd's Nest | ||||||||||||||||
| Byrd's nest is reached from the Beahm's Gap parking area. Follow the trail from the north end of teh parking lot to Byrd's nest #4, a backpacking waystation. The climb is smooth, but moderately steep. From the top, you find a nice three-sided shelter with a large fireplace. Running water was once available, but is out of service. A spectacular view east of the mountains is largely obscured by second growth timber grown since the Nest's construction bythe CCC. Total distance: ~2 miles roundtrip. Time: ~ 1 hour.
