Your Teaching Metaphor
As a preservice teacher, and as an inservice teacher, a variety of people including principals, parents, colleagues, and students will ask you how you view yourself as a teacher. To be ready for this question, it helps to think about how you will answer this question and in a creative way.
Think of how you view yourself as a teacher. Are you a drill instructor? A gardener? Lifeguard, Coach, Used Car Salesman? There is a metaphor that will help you describe how you view teaching and learning.
In this assignment, you will create a brochure/pamphlet/trifold that describes your teaching metaphor. We will use Microsoft Word. Under File, select Page Setup and choose Landscape (the non-letter setup). Then under Format, choose Columns and select three columns. This is a basic set up for a tri-fold document. This type of arrangement works differently, in that when the cursor reaches the end of the column, it will start again at the top of the next column. A new page will start when you reach the end of the third column. It will help you orient your pages if you sketch out a draft version first.
Use photos and graphics, and experiment with text and text formats. Create a brochure that you will be able to share with other professors, future employers, and for use in your licensure portfolio (section 6).
