Whilst in Sydney recently to visit a sci-fi convention, Nicholas Brendon has been talking about Buffy's next, and aparantly last, season.

"It sucks, because with how this year ended, and with what's gonna happen next year, it's gonna go out on top," said Brendon. "We're having a lot of fun doing it. This last year was my most fun year doing the show. But that's life in showbiz, and I'll just do something else."

"Joss always wanted to be attached to it, and as his schedule's becoming thinner, it's harder for him to be a part of the show," Nicholas said, referring to Joss' increasing workload including two new Buffy spin-offs and his new series, Firefly.

"It was his baby, so if he can't be a part of it like he wants to, then it's just not gonna run.
"It's gonna be really sad for me, 144 episodes and it's my first job. I went through a lot of changes personally in that time, so it's gonna be a teary goodbye."

So what does Joss Whedon have to say on Buffy's future? In a recent interview with Wanda at E!Online, Joss said "We basically plot every year as a natural ending point of the show. I loathe stories that end in the middle, so we wrap it up at the end of the year. Every year. So, next season, we've figured out the whole arc--who the bad guy is, what the general message is. Next year will be the end. And if there's another season, that will be the end, too."

There have been rumours for a long time that season 7 will be the last, mainly because Sarah Michelle Gellar's contract comes to an end then. Also with Joss moving on to pastures new with his Firefly series (set to launch onto US screens this autumn), could season 7 be the end? It's certainly a strong possibility it seems...
