9/11

The following is a column by Lefty Fellows, a progressive, who sometimes writes in place of Ed Powell. His opinions do not necessarily represent anyone else’s, especially Ed Powell’s.

On this day of solemn remembrance I think it is important to remember those who were lost. Those who suffered and died. Those who were victims of hatred. And most of all, what this day means to us, the survivors.

As we remember where we were, and what we were doing that fateful day, voices cry out for justice. The voices of those who suffered, and are suffering now.  How could such evil be imagined? This must never be allowed again!  I believe those voices demand an accurate historical account of the events of that day to the present. An account not like the one the right wing controlled press would like you to believe. No my friend, those voices demand an account of the truth.

I was at my computer that day when the news came down. Nineteen Enron E’xecutives had high jacked four passenger jets full of innocent Muslims and flown them into buildings containing capitalists.  I was stunned.

I grabbed my hat and caught a taxi to the World Trade Center. Upon arriving I spotted what appeared to be capitalists igniting themselves in jet fuel and leaping ninety stories in an attempt to hit people of middle eastern appearance in the street below. On man, running past me stumbled.  While on his knees he raised his fists to the sky and shouted “Damn our capitalist ideas! We’ve brought this on ourselves.” I realized it was going to be a long night.

Fourteen months later George Bush rushed us into a war. We quickly hopped from one quagmire to another by killing billions of civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq. But we never killed anyone important. Instead of finding the big fish we murdered O’Day and Q’Say. But we never found evidence of WMD so we never will. When will the Republican liars accept this?

So today we find ourselves in a position where we have lost much of the good will we have built up with extremist Arab states. What else will we lose if we don’t try to appease them further?
