If you have ever been on a diet, have you ever had what seemed like an uncontrollable desire for something you weren't supposed to have? It could be cake, chocolate, bread, etc. Did you give in and make yourself sick on whatever it was that you weren't supposed to have? Did you think "Just a little piece won't hurt", and then finish off the whole thing?

How many times do we do that in our Christian walk? Just one movie, magazine, book, drink, etc. won't hurt... After all, "everyone" is doing it... Then, before we know it, we are on a side road leading us away from God.

But, we don't have to give in to temptation. We have the word of God to strengthen us.

Matthew 4
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
3 The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."
4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.
6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
9 "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."
10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"
11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

We should know what the Bible says about different things, so that we may hide it in our hearts and use it when needed.

Psalms 119
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, O LORD ;
teach me your decrees.

So, the next time we are tempted with something, we can read our Bible, pray (always good), or even listen to a Christian song. "Seek and ye shall find." Turn to God, and draw closer to Him.
