We are like a blob of clay placed on the potter's wheel. Spinning around and around being shaped into something God can fill with His love until we overflow to those around us.
Lord if I'm the clay then lay me down
On your spinning wheel
Shape me into something you can fill
With something real
Caedmon's Call - Hands of the Potter
God created the Earth and everything around us out of nothing. He said "Let it be, and it was so". Just think of what He could do in our lives and those around us, if we let Him.
I would imagine that the Disciples thought their world was spinning out of control when Jesus was crucified. Not knowing if the soldiers would come for them next, or whether mobs of people would come for them... But, out of that came God's greatest gift to us - Salvation, so that we could be with Him. How many lives have been changed since then?
Hebrews 10
4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me;
6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.
7 Then I said, 'Here I am--it is written about me in the scroll--I have come to do your will, O God.' "
8 First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made).
9 Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second.
10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
14 because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
2 Corinthians 4
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
We can show others how mighty of a castle we can build on our own, but it always seems to have a foundation built on sand. When the waves come crashing in, our castle comes tumbling down. In the song, American Dream, the band "Casting Crowns" tells a story of a man who tried to provide the perfect life for his family, but in the end drove them away. If only he had built with God, the story could have ended differently.
Life is always better when we build with God. Though we may face trials and persecution, in the end, it will all be worth it.
2 Corinthians 4
17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
