The Attic [r.i.p.]

The Attic was a small night club in Cheltenham. It closed down in October 1999 due to bad management and has not re-opened.

The club had been known as The Attic since 1997, prior to that it was called Misty's and before that, The Night Owl. It was Cheltenham's only proper Rock night club. On a typical Friday in The Attic you'd here a broad spectrum of Metal/Rock, including Metallica, Slayer, Mötley Crüe, Nirvana, Pantera, Marilyn Manson, etc. Saturday nights tended to be slightly more dance/rap/indie/punk orientated - Prodigy, Beastie Boys, Ice-T, Chemicall Bros., Blur, Iggy Pop, etc.

The Attic would often have gigs there on week nights. Gigs ranged from show-casing local up-and-coming talent such as Stampin' Ground, to big name acts such as Pitchshifter, Strapping Young Lad, Cathedral, Pist. On, Napalm Death and Senser.

There were also the tribute bands such as Gunz 'n' Rozez, By-Jovi and Teen Spirit, as well as local bands such as Underule, Isolation and so on.

My beer of choice here varied from Guinness to Carlsberg (bottled) to Newcastle Brown Ale.

I have since heard news that The Attic will re-open in May 2001.
