Generally effectiveness of teaching at any stage of Education is measured in terms of technologies and media used in teaching. However, teaching is effective only when the pupils learn effectively.  Hence, for becoming an effective teacher, a person should be equipped with various types of techniques of learning. Our present teacher training – programme is also stereotyped focusing only on utilization of media, modern technology, infrastructure etc. The learning – environment, which is an only essential component of learning, is not taken in focus of training of teachers. The rural scenario of education in India is disappointing with respect to infrastructure, technology and media, no doubt but we must remember here that the teacher-pupil relation is quite healthy in rural schools. If the teachers are trained differently by taking the view of ‘learning – environment’, at central position of teacher education programme; then they can utilize their crowded classrooms as resources. When pupils interact with each other, they become ‘partners in learning’ and the effect of this is production of synergetic learning. Five group learning strategies, in this light are discussed in this paper.
