I had a dream about a girl,
Her face was bare, smooth as a pearl.
She waved at me and I could feel
A comforting smile (though her lips weren’t real).
“My dear,” said I, “where are you now?
When shall I meet you? Why? How?”
But every time I walked too near,
She would fade and disappear,
Then pop back up just as far away,
Eager to be chased another day.
Without a face, without a name,
Still I love her, just the same.
So smile till then and life will be fine,
Because I know you’re out there and that you’re mine. Poem: The Faceless Girl 1
