Once upon the Road of Life stood a simple Sign.
It had upon it two numbers setting the Speed Limit.
The Sign was a master at direction;
Telling the passerby cars and vans how fast they should move.
It saw the world in black and white, or rather, fast and slow.
Soon, however, the Sign looked around
And saw that he was alone.
Just what was it all those cars and vans were intent on doing?
How was he giving them direction if he didn’t know?
So, he wished and waited and strained until he transformed into a car.
His tires soared away from his position without once looking back;
All he knew was freedom and his newfound love.
Alas, he became lost and his gears flew out of control…
For he’d only spent his lifetime dictating
And never thought to experience.
And so the Sign now raggedly clinks in search of what he knew.
A shame for him, he moved too fast, and is nowhere to be found. Free Verse Poem: Speed Limit Sign 1
