Scene opens in a hospital;
And here, a birth
A slap, a towel, a hug
She said, “Welcome to Earth”

But it didn’t add up
Something was wrong
For he was a Space Man
And he didn’t belong

Where are you, Space Man?
Do you know where you are?
You belong back down here,
Not swimming past stars

Everything he touches
Withers and dies
And all his good intentions
End with bitter reprise

Of course the situation
Is a complicated cage
If he could, I’m sure he’d wish
To be erased from the page

And suicide is sad
And wholly unfair
And it’d hurt too many
Who’ve shown that they care

So don’t waste your tears
For this lonesome Space Man
He’s no better today
Than when he began

Soon he grows tired
Watching all his loves decay
And so he blasts off
To fail another day Poem: Space Man 1
