Too arrogant was I to cease believing in myself.
Too proud was I to stop others from admiring me.
Too weak was I to meet expectations.
Too idealistic was I to expect a Happy Ending.

This has happened time and time again.
This is my destiny.
No great tales of exploring dungeons.
No great tales of slaying dragons.

I cannot be the hero.
I cannot be the savior.
For every epic I’m written into
Is assured to become a tragedy.

I’ve proved to be soft where I needed to be hard.
I’ve proved to be slow where speed was required.
I’ve proved to be ignorant where I ought to have been learned.
I’ve proved to be a disappointment when carrying the faith of others.

I am the War Horse that trips during the initial battle charge.
I am the hyped actor that forgets his lines opening night.
I am the medical supplies that arrive a minute too late.
I am the martyr that dies without knowing his cause.

Don’t assure me of how fantastic I am.
Shed neither tear nor time in my honor.
I have used enough of both than I am worthy of.
Thank you for everything you have given.

I’ve failed.
I’m sorry. Free Verse Poem: I've Failed 1
