West Virginia Candlers

This couple, John Westlyn Candler (1826-1915) and his wife Elizabeth S. Knapp (c1828-1892) were the first Candler to live in present-day West Virginia. They were married in Wirt County, Virginia on the 16th of September, 1849. Elizabeth was the daughter of Abraham and Jeanette Taylor Knapp.

John was the son of Thomas Jefferson Candler (1801-1830) and Elizabeth Ann Seaman (1807-1869). T. J. Candler was the son of John Candler, Jr. (1765-1832) and Dorothy Stovall (1778-1855) of Russell County, Virginia.
