Early Virginia Candlers 1700-1750,
©1999 by Ed MarshThere were a few Candlers in the Virginia Colony before any evidence of Daniel and Hannah Candler in America. According to Legend, Daniel and Hannah came to America about 1735. By that time, there were already two Candlers who had emigrated to Virginia.
Here are two very promising leads that I have developed by assuming that Candlers might have come directly to Virginia (not the Charleston to North Carolina to Virginia story of the legend).

Anne Candler, late of Virginia beyond seas, spinster, deceased. Administration 14, Dec 1733 to her brother John Candler
NOTE: On the land grant from 1703, there is listed Richard and Thomas Burrell. Fact: Thomas Candler of Callan, Ireland (1663-c1719) married (c1685) Elizabeth Burrell (c1665-before 1694). After Elizabeth's death, Thomas Candler married (1697) Jane Tuite (b, c 1678). This is the marriage from which Daniel was supposed to issue, but what if...
PURE SPECULATION
1] ...what if Elizabeth had a son? Daniel did name his first daughter Elizabeth! She married John Caffrey, a neighbor of the Candlers on Fishing Creek.
2] ...what if a related Candler married another Burrell girl and had Daniel?
3] Suppose that John Candler (discussed in the grant above) came to VA in 1703 bringing baby Daniel. Suppose that Anne Candler of Virginia, spinster, had a child named Daniel. Wouldn't he be likely to be named after his uncle John, his mother's executor? This is unlikely because by 1733 Daniel would be old enough to be her executor.
4] Suppose that the John who came in 1703 was the cousin of Anne and the John in England.
...well, so much for what if.
Other Candlers in Early America
There was also a David Candler in Pennsylvania/Maryland who died in about 1743. His first-born son was named John William Candler.
Therefore,
I would like to see us (Candler researchers) digging into those VA libraries and archives in search of John Candler who emigrated in 1703 and Anne who died in 1733 instead of wondering why there are no records of Daniel and Hannah in Killkenny, Ireland.
