Du Pont de Nemours and the National Health and Safety Groups Council in association with IOSH's Edinburgh Branch ran

A day on safety at Murrayfield, Edinburgh - 23 May 2002

IOSH Edinburgh Branch Chair, Richard Lovering welcomes the delegates and outlines the safety procedures.

George Bebbington of Casella speaking on Risk analysis (Refresher lecture on the principles of risk analysis)

Matthew Parkinson of Dupont Tyvek: Aspects of chemical protection and barrier (Choice of PPE, chemical barrier, CE marking).
Jason Mitchell of 3M: Respiratory protection the issues (Choice of RPE, exposure limits, correct wearing, maintenance, training)
Stuart Blatson of the Research Development Centre who works as a consultant for Dupont: Preventing cuts and lacerations (Types of protection, suitability for use, hazard situations, complex problems)
Mick Dawson of Cassella: Asbestos update
Four personal protective equipment workshops followed - an opportunity for delegates to work in smaller groups looking at practical problems in the use of PPE.
Jason Mitchell of 3M explains about the different kinds of respirators and explains how fit testing, when it becomes a requirement, can be carried out.
Stuart Blatson demonstrates the variety of ways Kevlar can be used with different materials to provide a wide variety of gloves providing protection against a range of hazards.
Fiona Watson of Casella demonstrates a variety of instruments for sound level measurement.
Matthew Parkinson demonstrated some of the range of Dupont Tyvek protective suits. Here he explains some details to Kirsten Paterson, Chair of the proposed IOSH Forth-Tay District.
Then he helps her get into one.
Kirsten fully suited up.
Finally we assemble to hear Stuart Blaston explain about managing road accidents. In reality a short but punchy explanation of how important it is to use and wear your seat belt.
Thanks to the sponsors and organisers for a useful day.

IOSH will be back at Murrayfield in November for the National AGM and Dinner.
