IOSH Forth & Tay District Visit to WCF Potatoes – June 2003

A very informative and enjoyable visit took place at the WCF Potatoes. The visit for safety reasons was limited to 10 persons and pictured above are some of the members who attended the visit. The tour was organised and conducted by Joan Goddard, who gave a comprehensive insight to the commercial pressures placed upon the potato industry and the health and safety issues created by those demands.

The Company is involved in 6 key areas, from growing, storing, grading, washing, packaging and distribution. The entire process is heavily involved in a range of management systems including health and safety to meet the stringent standards expected by their customers. Significant investment has been made by the organisation to reduce and minimise the need for manual handling.
