Secretary's Sipper 2001
|
The annual match for the Secretary's Sipper was played at Craggie Hill Golf
Course last Friday despite the efforts to cause cancellation exerted by
the
weather providers. Heavy rain overnight and torrential down pour within
minutes of the completion of the competition did not dampen or curtail the
enthusiasm of the small number of members and their guests from tackling
the
testing course on the outskirts of Perth.
Ten players met prior to the match and enjoyed a light lunch whilst watching the rain die away and the ground dry before setting off to do battle. The course had been described as hilly with spectacular views and all the players confirmed this description on their eventual return to the clubhouse. A truly interesting challenge to all on a course that was playing well and in excellent condition. Thankfully the Stapleford system of scoring allows for a considerable number of lost balls and some hole scores that an opening batsman would be proud of. The players retired to the Clubhouse for dinner and recuperation giving the Secretary time to manipulate the scoring and the prize allocation. The meal was quality and the banter interesting before the prize giving. Many thanks were extended to Gordon for his contribution to the success of the outing and the hard work involving in ensuring that the event ran so smoothly. Thanks were also recorded for the generosity of the sponsors - Stevenson College, Menzies and Ogilvie Construction - as everyone received a prize ranging from a bottle of 10 year old single malt to a Stevenson's College carrier bag. For the record and those reading this and interested in the numbers, the winning Stapleford Score was 31 and the Secretary's Sipper went home with the Secretary. Gordon was runner-up. The Guest's Trophy was won by Murray and Richard ensured that his last year's position was no flash in the pan. An excellent day was had by all and many thanks to all the supporters. |
