IOSH is now the largest H&S organization in the world with 33, 089 members as of 31 May 2008.
It was agreed that if these changes were made then the minutes would be recorded as accurate.

An auditor is required to help review the Branches accounts annually. A finance background is not needed. Barbara Johnston and Margaret Hanson stepped forward at the end of the meeting to volunteer for the post.
DVD / CD information sources
Marion Johnston gave information on a DVD that was available on electrical safety, by the electrical safety Council. It focuses mainly on the home but some can be applied to the workplace. Marion also mentioned a DVD on road safety for children. It is free to educational establishments.

The Chair indicated that Mary Sturgess from IOSH HQ had come along to today’s meeting of the Edinburgh Branch to take the 10 minute slot normally taken by Branch Members in order to give the members some details of the Branch Liaison Team based in Leicester.
Introduction
The intention which Mary had for the short presentation today was to show, from a Branch Liaison Team, which is a team dedicated to provide support to Branches, point -

Where do we fit?
There has been a new Directorate formed within IOSH as of the 1st February this year, such that the six directorates now are –
Ø Commercial, IOSH Services (awareness level training)
Ø Communication, (Web, connect, publishing, media, campaigns)
Ø Finance – (budgets, expenses, accounts, investment)
Ø Policy and Technical (lobbying, con docs, r&d fund, tech enquires)
Ø Professional Affairs (membership, cpd, ipd)
Ø Networks and International (groups, branches and international)
The team now report in through the Networks & International Directorate under Sarah Hamilton.
The Team Members being;

The reasons stated for the formation of the new Directorate:
Ø Synergies between Groups and branches (networking benefits for members)
Ø Give more focus to branches and groups (lost in larger directorates)
Ø Increased International activities and links between groups and branches e.g. Intersec, Ireland sectors
What they do
Ø They provide support for 24 UK branches and 11 districts (which are run locally by some 400 volunteers)
Ø They provide a liaison and support service between committee members and head office (other departments) covering things like
Ø Branch events – advertising in connect, bookings, literature

Speaker 2: Rebecca Lancaster - Occupational Psychologist of Work and Wellbeing Consultants Ltd - Managing stress in the workplace
Liz Young – Executive Committee Member & Branch Education Officer, introduced the speaker to the assembled members as Rebecca Lancaster – the Managing Director of Work & Wellbeing Consultants.

The speaker indicated that she had been considering just what she should cover in her presentation about stress in the workplace and had decided on the following-

HWL (Healthy Working Lives) - Mental Health Commendation Award
Ø There are fewer companies registered for this award than for Healthy Working Lives.
Ø The criteria for this award are based on -
Ø Mental health awareness for staff and training for managers
Ø Conduct stress risk assessment and ongoing action plan
Ø Implement a workplace mental health and wellbeing policy

Ø Stress risk assessment framework

Break down analysis into departmental or organizational planning, possibly even taking down to team level.
