Home: Near the Gladden Fields, later in a cave under the Misty Mountains Other names: Trahald, Slinker, Stinker Quote: Sm�agol was born in ca 2440 III, he was a hobbit of Stoor-kind and he lived near the Gladden Fields with his family. In 2463 III Sm�agol and his cousin D�agol went on a fishing trip. D�agol saw something glittering at the bottom of the lake; he went down to get it and came up with a gold ring. Sm�agol asked if he could have the Ring for his birthday, but when D�agol refused to give it to him, Sm�agol strangled D�agol and took the Ring. Sm�agol began to use the Ring to steal and do mean tricks to his kinfolk. Soon he started gurgling in his throat, and people started to call him Gollum. After a few years he was banished from the community by his Grandmother. He eventually made his way in to the deep roots of the Misty Mountains. The darkness and the Ring made him become a creature with almost no resemblance to a hobbit. Here he was for many years, until he one day met Bilbo Baggins, who found his Ring. Gollum challenged Bilbo to a game of Riddles which Bilbo won. Gollum then went to find the Ring and get it back. In 3017 III he was captured by Sauron. This is how Sauron found out that a hobbit by the name Baggins had his ring. After this Gollum was captured by Aragorn who turned him over to Gandalf. Gandalf brought him to the elves of Mirkwood where he was kept captive until he managed to escape. He then set out after the Ring again, and he caught up with the Fellowship in Moria, and started to follow them. Near Emyn Muil Frodo and Sam managed to capture Gollum and made him their guide to Mordor. In Cirith Ungol Gollum betrayed Frodo and Sam to Shelob, who tried to eat them. Frodo and Sam got away, but Gollum caught up with them again at the foot of Mount Doom. At the crack of Mount Doom, Frodo was overcome by the power of the Ring. Gollum attacked Frodo, and managed to bite of Frodo�s ring finger, and finally got his precious. He danced with joy, but then he tumbled backwards and fell into the fire with the Ring. |
